Warband at Amazon UK - hmm? Opinions please...

Hello all,

Last weekend I pre-ordered Warband from Amazon as £17.67 for a boxed copy seemed like a good deal.

Today I checked and they're still saying it's expected to get to me on 7th April - and that's with 1st class post.

Funny thing is, I looked at the item page to see if there'd been any revision to their release date and it's now advertised at £11.00 from a third party seller, MyMemory.

Now, it's not the fact that my order still says I will be charged the old price that bothers me, what I find odd is that my order shows it's being sold by Amazon yet now Amazon themselves do not list it.

And I find it iffy that anyone could sell this for £11, especially as the few other games MyMemory sell are nowhere near as discounted.

So now I'm wondering whether just to cancel my order and buy from TW or possibly Steam.

I'd be especially interested to hear from anyone else who pre-ordered from Amazon and whether they are just going to wait or cancel their order too and, if so, who are they going to buy from insteads.

Thanks for reading

I'm in the same situation. except i just canceled from amazon and preordered from the third party. you'll see their ratings are very good so there's not much risk there and you save £6. i'd go for it if i were you.

I pre-ordered it about a week ago at £11 direct from Amazon only to be told today that it was sold out and the order was cancelled. When I looked this morning it was going at £17 so good to see it's back down again even if Amazon are playing hard to get.

I was going to buy it from amazon, but when I found it wasnt going to get to me on release i cancelled it and ive now pre-ordered from play.com, however it comes out tomorow and play still havent posted it  wtf? They allways send pre-orders out early so you get them on release, its bad enough i dont have it allready. I would have bought it from taleworlds but i want it boxed.

Not too bothered about a box copy per se but seemed silly that boxed copies were being advertised cheaper then download versions.

That said, I'm pretty tempted to cancel my order at Amazon - still open as they did not dispatch it today like I hoped they might - and just buy from TW directly.

It's normal these days. Unless the game is on a sale, it's rare you'll see a download version for less than the retail one, at least from an online retailer.
As for price, it's tax. The game RRP is £19.99. For digital distributors who are selling direct into the EU the VAT is the standard EU rate which is currently £5. Online retailers get around it by storing and dispatching from within the country of sale, so only the (usually much lower) national VAT is applied. Chuck in that they're paying wholesale rather than the RRP and even at £18 they're probably making £8 profit.
