War Elephants?

I know it would be really tough to make, but trampiling hapless moutain bandits on top of one of thoose angry, great, grey beasts would never get old for me. 'specially if you could have, like, 6 archers up there with you eliminating whoever avoids the tusks and feet.

elephants would be too expensive to use in combat, besides fire or trumpet sounds are enough to panick them

If you could find a modeller to whip one up after the tools are released... hmm.

It'd be sorta neat if you could add custom mounts to the game - anywhere from larger sized horses to stags for those antler knights.

A huge elephant with a tower on his back would be cool, it would look a bit out of place in the environment though. There are smaller elephants though, so I could see those being used.

I would assume only the devs could add such thing. You could change the look of an horse, but adding an elephant would probably need a customization to the engine no?(application of new physics engine for the creature maybe?) I don't know but it doesnt seem like a tool thing to me.

yeah, and the number of hills and size of battle maps would make it hard, either you'd have to scale everything down or make the maps flatter, the elphant wouldn't get anyspeed up

I think the ability to add elephants should be availible.

I do not think they would unbalance the game. In the hilly environment we have now, or even in an open field, it would be easy to avoid on a horse and just chuck javs or what have you at the driver, rendering the beast aimless and an equal threat to both sides. You would need some kind of mechanism where it might stampede, or just walk off the map if uncontrolled.

I'd like to be able to add a dragon. It could attack with its tail, claws, or fire, fly around, and be uninterruptible.

*ducks from historical accuracy crowd*

well making the elephant pannick and going on a stampede after it has been hit by x amount of arrows would balance it.

as for your dragon, normally I'd be a person you'd have to duck for, however after just having seen siegfried beat fafnir on tv I wish i could slay a dragon too

No, I don't think ANYONE used chariots anymore in those days. Even though M&B is set in an imaginary world, I don't think it'd make sense to add stuff that's totally out of the time frame.

YOU DIRTY BASTARD! Where the heck do you live?
I've been waiting for that buggering TV movie to come over to the US for eight months now, even before the darn thing was reliesed! You'd better be somewhere across the pond, or I'll have your hide!

And I would LOVE to fight a war elephant.
I'd also love to fight atop a war elephant. ^__^ Pikes only, I think.

They did in Ireland. The much picked-upon Irish really were in the armpit of the world before they were repeatedly conquered and abused by the English. Their warriors were still balancing on the tongues of war-chariots, flinging spears at each other and catching them in leather shields while the rest of europe was learning how to play the game of heavy horse and couched lance.

I said before and I'll say again, I think the Gaelic/Britton war-chariot, which was used primarily as a "Battle Taxi" -NOT a fighting platform- would be perfect in Mount & Blade as an addition to the Mountain Bandits, or some other similarly primative faction.

Chariot's would be pritty awsome for a "Death arena"

Eg. A Rip-off of the arena in the movie "Gladiator" , Where they drive past cutting off limb's.

I would like to see chariot's.
War elephant's i think...is a little 'Far Fetched' for this sort of game....i mean , they are more of a "War" device , rather then a mercenary thing.

What i mean is , In realife , the few time's war elephant's were used. Was by army's , not small groups of men of 1-100

Are you guys trying to turn this into Rome Total War? Pure arcade

I find war elephants to be a marketing thing and really not good for gameplay.

Besides, this seems to be set in a fairly cold European environment. Elephants would die from the cold.

As for chariots, maybe. I'd rather have ability to siege and storm cities/castles. That's the part about RTW that I really liked.

Why is this argument even used in the mod forum?

It really only has ground to stand on when it's referring to the unmodified version of the game.

Excuse me, but do a research on war elephant. They were used expensively by numdian, Carthagian, Epgytian, Parthian, Armenian, and other few of nations during Rome Empire era. And the uses of war elephants was so successful that even Hanniball used alot of war elephant against Rome's invasion of Carthage during Punic war as well! Now that is NOT arcade, and I am so tired and sick of hearing ignoration poeple who post and think they know about the facts while they didn't do any of research about these specific subjects!

However, let them to do the balancing when adding war elephant to the game. I am one who support these people who ever desire to create war elephant and it must be VERY expensive and are VERY rare where it'd be very diffcult to find and recruit these monsterous war elephant!
