Wait, when did we move to the fastest combat setting?

Fastest combat is thoroughly entertaining in Singleplayer, however in the multiplayer it isn't a good idea, unless everyone on the server has ping <20 ms (virtually impossible).

I thoroughly agree with this, hence why my server is staying at normal combat speed.

Yeah, fastest is a bad idea.  It does further the gap between those with very fast reflexes and/or low pings compared to those who don't have them.  Spamming is also seemingly even more prevalent now too.  I actually did very well on fastest with a 30-40 ping, but when I was at 80+ ping it really hamstringed my ability to manual block.  I can also understand why new players are making threads talking about how other players can hit them 2-3 times in a row before they can do anything.  Of course, this is inaccurate, but when playing on fastest it is really hard for new players to learn the rhythm of combat.  Add to this the spammers who have very twitchy mouse sensitivities, allowing them to turn into attacks very quickly, and it can be an annoying playing experience if you have slower reflexes and/or an above average ping.

And FYI half of players on the medieval madness server had pings over 70.  That is somewhat managable to block on normal but on fastest you can only block if they telegraph their attack way in advance.

not to mention it's almost impossible to chamber block ON PURPOSE at the fastest setting. I agree that medium speed is much better and im glad to see that some of the servers have changed back to this setting.

When did this change go into effect approximately? POM and ATS are two of the only servers I have decent ping on... and for me decent is like 70-90.

Man I hope I can compete enough to make it worth it.

The biggest problem for me is that the fastest combat speed simply looks silly and completely immersion-killing. No one, ever, will swing a steel sword with a real weight that fast. They aren't branches. Actually, no one would even swing branches that fast.

They're on medium at the moment, aren't they?

edit: ah, they're on the second highest. They were on medium the last time I checked :???:

They were on medium, but changed to fast in the last wekk or 2.

It's not a change I welcome. As others have said, learning is probably easier on medium. The Aussie servers are struggling to have 30 players at any time. Anything that makes the skill difference even more relevant will simply drive off all but the most experienced. I'm seeing that happen already.....

I do wish for them to at least bump it down a notch to Fast. It'd be a good compromise. The fastest setting pretty much remove chamber blocking all togther unless on accident. And spamming has gotten worse too.

The problem with fastest is that it really removes so much skill from the game. Spamming becomes so much more effective, and even a very experienced player can succumb to pure spam easily. Medium speed allows for realistic expectancies for a person to block or chamber-block.

Upping the combat speed and 100% melee friendly fire are two settings that are seemingly generally considered as "pro,"
I think melee FF should be at most 50%. 100% is flat out annoying.

Too ****ing right. Even in a clan match I wouldn't want it past 50% because the game's damage system and hit detection is so hokey sometimes and getting punished so hard for the game's own flaws is infuriating, but with the slash-happy pub crowd anything past 25% is already nerve-racking for me. I think melee FF should be there to prevent unrestricted grouped spam, not to cause constant TKs when players accidentally clip friendlies standing 3 feet behind them.

Blame Marshall for being a whiny *****. He kept bugging ACC1 to bump it up to fastest and found some support among the pubbers who claimed that the game felt slow.
