Right now I'm leaning toward the idea of making Brother Jaques the Abbey Recorder. He can live in the Gatehouse and give quests (replacing the guild master). I think that fits pretty well... He can do all the writing he wants in there.

Thats a beautiful idea.

Awesome idea, and would he be in animal form or human form? Because if you could make it a human that looks even slightly like him it would stick out so well as a tribute haha.

Mouse form I would believe. There were atleast one or two squirrel abbey recorders in the whole of the series history but the most iconic images by Jacques were his Mouse characters from Martin to Matthias. So making him a mouse would be the most fitting course.

Well lets keep that idea in mind and move on.

I set up my recording equip only to find that I am missing a crucial adapter and will have to wait to get started.
I am watching for it on-line, and the place I usually get my tech stuff is out of stock .
Once I get my adapter I will start by sending you ( mandible) a sample.
and hopefully be underway with some die hard voice acting.

I have been a fan of the Redwall series for more than a decade now and I am extremely excited about this mod! Too bad there won't be Cluny the Scourge or Slagar, but I like that you're going in your own direction so you can have a bit more license to do what you want as far as story goes. The screens look great already!

I will totally play a badger when they come out. I was wondering how you plan to increase their bulk. Obviously, badgers and a few other creatures in Redwall are larger or smaller than others and it would be cool to see an actual difference in their mass in game.

And I love the idea of using Jacques as the Abbey Recorder. Perfect role for him, one that he has actually used before when referring to himself in a few snippets I've seen him do for the Redwall TV series and in forwards and the like for the books themselves. You should send him a letter or an email after you release the mod so he can see that. I bet he'd get a kick out of that!

Anyways, good luck with this brilliant concept and have fun with it!

Okay, sorry, don't mind me. That just struck me as funny. My condolences.

Even if he did hate video games, I'm sure he would at least give you a thumbs up for promoting is series. right?

And if I'm not mistakin, this mod is pretty spot on.

we will never know what he thought about it

I can't say to how he'd react that we're modding a game to be more like his books, but I'm certain he'd be happy that we're fans of his work.
Now, no offense to a great author but... back to work!

So I was thinking, will there be a "sprint" action? With no mounts and all.
And since everyone will be running everywhere, are the maps going to be smaller in comparison to say, Native maps?

And a good idea that I think would help the game feel full, is to have trees that are bigger in size and mass than the normal "native" trees. And say you are a squirrel archer. Maybe "mount" the tree and fire away.

Just a thought.

Mm good Idea!

I was thinking some of the same things. Bigger trees (both on the world map and in battle).

Sprint ability available only for fast creatures (Hares, squirrels, weasels)

The map will be much smaller than native, definitely. Hopefully the game won't be too quick.

Also, I have been experimenting with more coding recently and have started making unique banners. I made a couple of vermin banners to test out alpha cutouts versus modeled cutouts for ripped flags. I have decided on alpha channel flags because the effect is much better. (See the Trident banner)
The only problem is that we can't have large tableau shields because the alpha rips just appear as black parts in them. This isn't a problem as long as we don't use large board shields and keep the rips confined to the bottom hem.

This is where you come in. Post images, draw pictures, suggest ideas. Lets make some flags!

I'll post the ones we come up with now and then so we can see how many we have. We want flags specific to Redwall Abbey, Salamandastron, Juska and Corsairs.

There was a Red Wall flag mentioned in the Long Patrol that faced side ways and was all ripped at the end, was dark green, and has a simple golden capital ''R" on it.
