3-I will check if there is a problem (not major one currently), they should slowly gain trade skill. There can be a bug currently.

Hi @mexxico I just spent time leveling up a companion to put focus points into Trade.

His Trade level is 1 and after a year of running a caravan he earned zero XP in Trade.

He did get a couple of levels in Rogue, Medic, and Athletics (forgot to give him a horse) so the leader of caravan does earn XP.

Yes it is known. We will fix it. Thanks.

Ugh, what the heck? Why?

My only town is Akkalat, which is right on the border of the unofficial Steppe Bandit Khanate. One of the few ways of keeping my caravans (reasonably) safe was off-loading their non-mounted troops for mounted troops every so often. It wasn't perfect, it had a cost associated with it and it meant having to actually stick around to donate to my caravans every so often instead of being truly passive income but I could actually interact with the caravan system instead of it being fire-and-forget, non-interactive denars.

It was a similar thing for my villagers, because steppe bandits are really good at running them down, to the point one of my villages had 1 hearth.

Check the patch notes [e1.3.0]. Some improvements have been made to caravans, including being able to buy better troops. I think the party limit is still 30 atm, but mexxico stated that a perk to add more space will be added later.

+1 to the villager bodyguards though. It's really useful and should be a feature. Make sure they cost wages though.
