And the Goidil too? Oh and Englisc and Norse? Please... The Rus sword price increases are welcomed on my part however the changes need to be applied directly to all of the factions - not just one arbitrary selection. Never did get an explanation as to why they were increased... Huh?

Balance. The Rus were having everyone else for breakfast.

Goídil, Engle and Norðmenn only get less-than-ideal short swords already on the first round, if they're so inclined. I would favour the Rus getting them too. But only the Normant can afford proper swords now, which I have no problem with.

Well, in the beginning things looked more equal in terms of equipment. There's been a balancing progress along the way which involved looking at server statistics, whether that's a good idea or not. So now we have gotten more expensive swords for the Rus because they were statistically doing way too good, and we've gotten very cheap armour upgrades for the Engle because they were doing absolutely rubbish statistically for some reason. I guess what became the Norðmenn faction lost their swords for balancing reasons as well perhaps.

Was it a conclusive discovery that the Rus swords were the cause of the victory? By what margins were they beating the other factions? Were any other factors taken into consideration? Perhaps a certain group were more liable to choose Rus over any other faction and dominated through team efforts.

Of course it wasn't a conclusive discovery, that would have been impossible. They were beating all other factions by considerable margins and absolutely trashing the Engle. As for those other variables such as player skill, they can't really be taken into account because there's no way to analyze them, but personally I think they would even out across months and months worth of statistics, particularly considering there's no Rus clans and therefore they end up being played by pretty much everybody.

You can only work with the variables you can control.

I know I chose Rus because i prefered swords over axes (which almost every other faction had), but now i notice that i choose other factions as well due to them being more balanced and i care less for swords.

I remember something about a Russian monk by the name Nestor telling a tale about Swedish vikings who he named Rus when he saw them sailing in the Russian seas. Have you based the Rus faction on Nestor's tale?

There is a Rus' faction, but their banner suggests it's just the Kievans at the moment. They are probably Varangian though, and thus of Scandinavian descent.

Much like the Goídil, I think they're more of a geographic amalgamation of peoples from the Baltic to Kiev. Partly of Scandinavian descent, partly East Slavic, even partly Baltic.

I'd say the Rus in Víkingr is mostly Slavic, arguably with some influences from their neighbours and the Scandinavians. They're more or less a representation of the Kievan Rus during the late 10th and early 11th century.

Has anyone ever thought that maybe the clans in vikingr who are predominantly Norse are better warriors than the ones who are mainly Engle??

This would explain why the Rus are kicking arse, Rus is the second choice for most Norse clans when Nordmenn are unavailable!

Or is this type of thinking too far out there for anyone to say........

Lots of the Engle warriors during the time were simply farmhands and lumberers. Nordmenn warriors, while being mostly the same, were trained in combat, and raided as a community. So, they got combat experience eventually. Rus warriors, Druzhinik specifically, were mailed warriors, which bothers me in Vikingr, because most of the Druzhinik went to battle in mail or some sort of gambeson.

No, there will be no drama, at least not on behalf of us Fyrningas. We don't crave for e-peen of any kind.
However, I find it kind of funny that someone who isn't even a regular player jumps in trying to offend.



The clan argument seems a bit weak. By this logic nordmenn should dominate all matches against every other faction at all times when they actually aren't.

Yeah I thought that comment would provoke friendly banter, clearly its a sore subject  Seriously though it was only meant as a little jest between friends and I am not getting into a **** measuring contest of who's a "regular" player and who's been playing longer, that's just lame.

I honestly thought it would be taken lightly - sometimes we need more humour and fun on the forums, maybe its just an English thing. Anyways if anyone wants satisfaction I will be on the server tonight, just shout

It is puzzling why the Engle faction loses so much, maybe having one god isn't as good as having lots?
