SP Viking Conquest Balance Mod 13

Users who are viewing this thread

oh yes that would be a nice addition. I would like to modify the entire companion screen to look like that, a tiled scrollable matrix instead of the limited one currently in place (seems easier to add tiles to a list than tiles to the current screen)

presentation is free form. You create the UI in any way you want. But freedom has a cost, as it is harder to code it as you need to do everything. I would classify them as a advanced coding skill. Play with them and you can do whatever fits your design.

The scrollable tile format would fit my design better as I have alot of companions (mod originally started out as a companion mod) so instead of rearranging the vanilla screen, a scrollable matrix would be perfect and easier to add my changes to.

Btw, currently re-enabling the Storyline, (also adding balance mod 10 and patch 2.044 changes) hopefully that will correct the camp menu, seems the camp is tied to svens lair in some way.

there is no need for storymode, just check the presentation code for any check conditions. It is not like any of that is hardcoded.

on the presentation it depends on your goal, really. Do you want to show all companions (including candidates)? Or just the ones in the party? The latter would limit the quantity to a few, so even the vanilla VC screen would work. So think about all that, make a design, and see which format is best to show the info.

Okay, I'll comb thru module_presentations, becuase after putting back all the storyline code, the camp menu works! So yeah something is telling the menu that the camp is destroyed but not to open the standard camp_menu. I posted a pic in the thread for modding help.

On the companions, It would be nice to have them all shown but grayed out if you haven't met them. I edited the presentation a while back but only succeeded in making it show some random NPCs. But yeah, I'm sure I would prefer a nice list or even something like the troop tree vs. the vanilla companion matrix.

@Tingyun, just finished adding all your new stuff to my module files. Thanks!

Reposting to keep from being buried during the weekend:

BETA for VC Balance Mod 10.0 posted under "main downloads" at the nexus page. Module files also posted for modders like Ryantheskinny.

Please test if you can. Provided no bugs are found, I'll make it an official (and final) release in a week or so. But I really need some help playtesting if at all possible.

IMPORTANT NOTE: 9.0 added the option to manage all settlements, to allow the player to build religious buildings or assist his lords. This is intended behavior.

CHANGELOG 10.0:

Updated with changes from latest Viking Conquest release, 2.044

Some tweaks to religion

Fixed vanilla VC bug where AI kings courted ladies (includes code to make AI kings break up for current saves)

Saxon troop recruiting rosters made a bit more elite, to show their relative ascendancy in comparison to mercia and east anglia, and give a greater chance of them being the last kingdom to stand against (and defeat) the invading norse).

Druid sacrifice tweaked

Made prison break success independent of whether the lord is conscious or unconscious (just put him on a horse or something, no need to abandon him even after all guards are dead, eliminate the video game escort quest annoyance)

To balance with the above, and encourage more interesting larger fights, village elders now require a good deal more money in bribes to take on the risk of involving themselves in your plots to set fires

Made prisoner escape check happen free of a couple of conditions (in particular, it will run periodically even during day)

armor performs a little better against blunt damage

A general balancing pass on all tier 2 and above slingers, increasing many of their WP. Also slight increases to peasant sling WP of cultures that heavily use the sling

Sling rocks given less ammo (decided their stats reflect better shaped rocks, and wouldn't be so easily obtainable in battlefield conditions

Some slight increases to WP norse axe warrior

Removed range guranteed tag from briton champions (wasn't on any other infantry),

altered lord random personality distribution to shift a bit more away from the worst 2 personalities

interupt damage threshold moved to warband levels (meshes better with the improved mail armor)

Changed some values in AI courtship

Right to rule increases slowed in a couple of places

further +2 damage increase to 1.5 handed axes, and additional +2 for non-irish basic 1.5 handed (closing the gap a bit). Dane axe -2 damage, +5 speed. Axes made swing only (thrusting being epecially poor choice for them). 1 handed battle axes given +1 damage. A couple Pict/irish 1 handed axes given -1 damage. A couple other axes slightly tweaked to create more logical progression of length/speed/damage and balance of factions.

1 handed axe speed reduced

spears made a bit more breakable

plain length 30 seaxes/knives made stab-only when on foot (should help seax armed troops quite a bit, as their cut damage is terrible)

Fixed vanilla VC bug in Thora persuasion check

I should be thanking you instead--converting the troops and parties files was a big help. I really appreciate that, especially as I know it likely was very boring work.

Once Beta 10 turns into a final release, that will be it for Balance Mod development, but I am very excited about all the stuff you are planning with your mod. My next VC playthrough won't be for awhile, so I'm hoping that will give enough time that the next time I play will be with your mod. Uniting Norway, visiting Iceland, launching raids into the Mediterranean--it stands to be enormous fun.

It was no problem, hopefully I will get this baby going had a hiccup with my storyline removal but kalarhan got me on the right track , currently revising factions and polishing up the map now. Then on to new factions, the Carolingian kingdoms and Brittany and I may do a beta release. Gonna need help for faction research and new armors and weapons to fill out the world and some new scenes.

Ryan: You might consider at some point making contact with Lightwolf: https://www.moddb.com/mods/chronicles-of-dark-ages-conquerors

He is also using Balance Mod in his modding project (advancing the timeline to the Norman Conquest), so you two might be able to share some resources.

Hey guys, the holidays are approaching and my time to work on the sub-mod for VC and Tingyuns excellent Balance mod are going to become very limited til new years. Looks like my initial release will be sometime after that point.

So here is a look into my work notes that I use to plan/organize my work

Note: still working on research and implementation in game, not all factions are on the list yet

Thanks again Tingyun for letting me use your thread and for your awesome mod, also thanks to kalarhan for your help. thanks to Dazzer, Marko, dhamon and anyone I forgot for commenting and suggestions

Ryan: Looks great! You might consider a different mod name (from the one in the first spoiler tab, “Dark Ages of Europa”)—“Dark Age” is a famous VC graphic Mod, so you might want to pick a name that doesn’t sound so similar to it, to avoid any risk of confusion. Just a thought.

Beta 10 players: Please do let me know if you’ve encountered any problems, or if everything looks good, to help in making the release final. 100 people across the two download sites downloaded Beta 10 over the weekend, so I’m hoping to get some kind of playtesting feedback to confirm everything looks good. Any info or feedback is helpful, even a simple confirmation like “played for a few hours, didn’t find any problems.”

Looking good Ryan, may I suggest you change a few titles and names though so they are in their native language? Otherwise it would be odd if lets say Gwynned lords had names in Welsh while Franks in standard English.

I want to, but I am having trouble finding reliable information on that. Louis could be Ludwig or Hludwig der Deutsche or Germanicus. And Louis of Italy has his official Italian title in Latin. Made charles the bald, Karl. Not hard to change all that stuff though.

Also Roue Saluan Breizh is Salomon of Brittany or Breton but I can really find a good way to form his title, in the language.

Edit: also to all I am open to suggestions on the mod name due to the reason pointed out by Tingyun.

Currently thinking Europa 871 or Europa: The Dragon and the Raven

And Tingyun I downloaded the beta for Balance mod but haven't had time to start a game, haven't noticed anything odd code wise though.

Yeah this stuff is confusing, Louis should be Hlodowik or Chlodowig, cant find "German" or "Bald" or King in Old Frankish sadly but I will dig deeper

I like Europa 871 more

Edit: Perhaps Hlodowik Diutisc (Karling)? For Louis the German

Very nice start! I see no Arab factions the list, are you going to cut out Southern Europe or you plan to add them later?

Btw, Charles the Bald is referred as Karolus Calvus, in the historiography of the time (like Andreas Bergomas).
Of course he was Frankish, but since Charlemagne they established themselves as the Holy Roman Empire (Sacrum Romanum Imperium), their official language was medieval Latin until 1700. So most of the official documents and titles were in Latin.

Also, the most appropriate and historical title for the Regnum Italiae is Rex Italiae (as you see it was a Regnum - Kingdom - not an
Empire)

If you want I can help you making some research for the Italian peninsula, as I can read some latin myself

Okay, we may go with that since I am having no luck finding anything better

First let me say I would greatly appreciate the help!

Yes Arab kingdoms are coming, at least four of them and Islam as well but later.

Did they use Latin officially in the Francian kingdoms? Should we use latin for their titles and names instead of franconian? I do like using the old frankish form for Ludwig the German though, since I think they had started becoming more Germanic than frankish in the Eastern Carolingian Empire.

I had read that Louis II was the Holy Roman Emperor and claimed the title of Emperor of Italy after defeating the Arabs in Italy to the disgust of the Eastern Romans which is why I was going to use that title, but if you think this is better I'm cool with that.

You are welcome! I really like your initiative and I like very much historical mods, I'm glad I can contribute

Yeas I was verifying this, and I had edited my post:

Cool with the Frankish names for Ludwig though. With Louis II would be best to use latin name and title, since he held the emperor title. I will look for his latin name, which might be something like Ludovicus II found it, it's  Hludowicus  http://www.rm.unina.it/didattica/fonti/anto_cam/andrberg/1-10andrberg.htm#1-10. I think latin would fit also for Charles the Bald (Karolus Calvus).

I had read that Louis II was the Holy Roman Emperor and claimed the title of Emperor of Italy after defeating the Arabs in Italy to the disgust of the Eastern Romans which is why I was going to use that title, but if you think this is better I'm cool with that.
Oh, I didn't know! I've done a quick research, and I've found the episode you are referring to. Indeed, Hludowicus II re-affirmed his title of Imperator Romanorum (Emperor of the Romans) to piss off the Eastern Romans. However, in this context Imperator Romanorum means Holy Roman Emperor, rather than Emperor of Italy. On the other hand, the rulers of the Regnum Italiae held the title of Rex Italiae since the Carolingian until 1014.
The source of confusion here is that Hludowicus II after the treaty of Meerssen was both Rex Italiae and Imperator Romanorum.
In this case, I would go for the "biggest" title, Imperator Romanorum
