Vietnam '65

Users who are viewing this thread

Just wanted to do a plug for this one: http://www.vietnam65.com/.

I have a particular interest in guerrilla warfare, and this is one of the few games to put a proper emphasis on intelligence gathering and logistics. Combat (and indeed all the mechanics) are very simple but it does the trick. Plus, it's quite well designed as a game - each unit and action seems to have its place, and there are a number of different ways you can win. It's also cheap, at $8.95 on Steam.

Shuttling your transport units back and forth, never being completely sure that your carefully patrolled corridor is indeed clear of VC mines and RPG teams, really gives a flavor of this kind of campaign.

The big downside is that you can only play as the US/ARVN, but hopefully the system will expand to allow humans to take the NLF. I'd love to see the system tried out in other theaters/conflicts as well.

It's in the App Store, but not Google Play...

Maaaan, this looked like it would fun to play on my phone while I'm taking the train.

Oh well, still picked it up for PC.

A strategy game published by Slitherine that isn't $50?! Looks like something I'll have to pick up. I agree with QuailLover though, shame it's not on Android, because I'd love to play this on my phone.

Game is fun.
I like the concept.

But there isn't much contents...
Sure its only 8-9$ but i would have paid more than 20$ for a bigger Vietnam Turn based strategy game.

I feel like that one scene from American dad (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9a_RXJXBIw) is relevant now.

On a serious note though, I kinda want this. Can anyone link an actual gameplay of this? I'm curious now.

This should give an idea of what the game is about.

It's true the game is fairly light on content, but thanks to the random maps, there's still a lot of replayability. I kind of like that development approach - make the game cheap but challenging, with an idea toward expanding later on.

"Lost Patrol" looks like a pretty cool game, especially for its time, and Mud & Blood also looks worth a trial. Their squad's-eye-view is clearly a very different treatment of the war.
