As you can see from the screams and cries of the spamming babbies (yes, 2 b's) this patch has been a rousing success in raising the skill cap of melee. Perhaps this game will have a lasting competitive scene after all.

babbies pls go.

"Veterans": Myself, 5arge, Deo, DaMonkey, McEwan, Revan, Hekko, Sid, LittleGuy.. the list goes on..

Anyways.. G'night, lad.
The list does go on, and it's all people who have been around since mm. The same people that are up in arms about this patch. Vets=People who have been around since mm, at least that's how I see it.

I consider myself a veteran. I've played since before MM was called "Mount and Musket". At the time of my playing, it was called "Musket Madness", and was a alpha/beta. I hated melee in NW. It was a spamfest of up attacks, and when I chambered them they just blocked and continued their spam. I know I speak for a few other veterans, as I've talked to them on the matter. Before the 1.006 patch, I played a total of about 12 hours, only because i'm an admin and have duties, I mose certainly didn't play the game to have fun, as I couldn't. After the patch, I've already exceeded the amound of hours and thoroughly enjoy it. The thing about the new melee is it forces people to learn alternatives to just regular attacking. People need to learn chambering and other methods again, which is great.
Well why use bayonets at all when butter knives are now obviously superior in every way.

I hate this new patch. I never spammed feints or spammed period. I would just pure outblock or chamber my opponents. This new patch has completely ruined the fast-paced melee of NW, I can no longer have these fast paced duels because the block reaction time after attacking takes soooo long. I dont care if the up attack is slower or the bayonet is shorter, but the new reaction time for blocks to buff chambers?? Its just horrible! I mean seriously...even true MM players want Tapblocking back.... and this is the farthest thing from Tapblocking.

Why would taleworlds fix something that was never broken? Nothing was wrong with the previous version, at least with melee. But now, they made melee almost completely unplayable. There is so much controversy about this topic. That should be enough of a reason to switch the melee back to the way that it was before.

OH almost forgot. For those of you complaining about spammers, If you truly possess the ability to chamber, just dont react to the feint, and just try and chamber through the feint. Its very effective, but you must realize when you are meleeing that its not a turn-based FF game where you wait your turn to attack.

This patch is the worst thing that has happened to NW. Everyone who has worked hard to become very good at melee has just been slapped in the face by the Devs. The Devs obviously don't care about people who have been playing this game for a long time.

Actually it was pretty broken, way too easy to spam and overheads where op. cav was underpowered too.

now its much better, but because of the change in pace it feels stupid and unnatural.

If you knew how to block properly (which takes time to learn, as it should) overhead spam was easy to counter and use in your advantage even. Cav sword length is now LONGER than the their animations, which is just to me an unfinished patch almost. Honestly cav in general has always been the cheap way of killing people as it's so easy just to run up from behind people in melee and slice them, especially dragoons.

I agree completely with this. In a poll regarding the topic 46% of the users said they preferred the old version. THAT'S ALMOST HALF OF THE COMMUNITY, and that's not even considering the fact that 25% of those 46% were probably the majority of the  veterans of the game. And we are more than willing to compromise on the issue as well, KEEP the unrealistically small bayonets, just give us back the melee we have come to love in the game.

I'm going to quote this again just so all viewing can see it, because out of everything said so far in this thread it speaks the most to me.
"This patch has officially ruined NW for me. The main enjoyable aspect of the game that made it different from all the same shooter games was the melee. Now it's clunky and slow, and the Devs are making cav and muskets more powerful. I hate cav, because they ruin every single fight by rushing around on high pop servers because its easier to take people off guard while horses from both sides are rushing around you in a big horde. It's aggravating to see the Devs take this stance because it shows that they hardly care for the veteran players who appreciate the melee aspect. I feel that since Warband has gotten more popular you are trying to keep more players playing by making the game easier to play by slowing down melee and instead focusing it on shooting. That to me seems like the Devs only want to make a game that will sell better to little kids who can't deal with the learning curve. Too many times I've had public players tell me that feinting or spinning or whatever honed tactics I use are annoying, yet they hardly know how to block. They believe that shooting is more important and that they are better than me since they kill me easier (because I don't like shooting, melee is much more fun than aiming down sights to shoot someone, especially if it's point ******** blank -.-). I'm tired of how noob-friendly this game is becoming. I put lot's of hard effort into learning how to block, feint, and chamber well, and it's extremely frustrating to see how little of that matters anymore. The community is not only made up of admin loving little children who love everything the Devs throw out. It isn't right to do what you've done just because the clueless players think so. Learn to appreciate the veterans of your community who helped make thrive what you began. Scratch the update or I'm done.": TheHavoc.

All the changes made to cavalry in this new update are great. My only complaint is what they did to the line infantry melee. It sucks either way you look at it.

Haha don't go into the cav argument, all you need is a good overview of your environments and it is easy to neautralise cavalry, just dont stand by yourself in the middle of a field and if a lancer comes at you just block, never try to hit it, let your teammates hit it once you have blocked its hit.
if its couching lance just jump jump jump!

Also on the upper block it is very hard to block a hit when it is preceded by 5 or so spams and that thing where you look down but hit up. now it is much harder to spam feint which is good, they just need to speed up the up attack, not as much as before though. it is too easy to chamber now, and counter cambering is very hard.

I never had a problem taking down cav before the patch, it was always easy to just ram them in with my bayonet with an upstab, which has been rendered impossible due to this silly patch. I never had a problem with spammers, in fact those were always the easiest to take down because most spammers cannot block.

Ok, let me make this simple, since you've not gotten it yet:

The skill ceiling - that thing that determines the average skill necessary from the players - has gone up, because the game is no longer a case of spamming and spinning. The true 'veterans' - the ones who've been here since MM - have actually enjoyed the patch (Those I've spoken to at least), because it requires the use of a brain, rather than just your right index finger.

Hmmm funny story i am a "True Veteran" since i have been playing since MM and find this patch awfulll not only has it made cav a little unrealistic with no fall damage if there horse gets killed and it having to take a few more stabs than it should also it not rearing up when heading into a  face full of bayonet..... and the fact the bayonet plus musket length is no where near historicall accuracy, as a MM vet i hate the new melee it is slow and clunkny and noob friendly

Hey, don't express your opinions/and or facts against the patch here because you'll be ridiculed and stoned by the so called "Community".
