Veagir Elephants and Khergit Camels!

Users who are viewing this thread

It just occured to me, the Vaegirs need WAR ELEPHANTS!
I think it would be amazing, you see over the hills, these giants charging down!  Or by the same token, use Elephants yourself!
I also think maybe Mount & Blade needs camels, maybe the Khergits could primarily use them, having camels in deserts in real life is an advantage to heavy cavalry (I am sure Armagan knows about this, those of us who live/lived in the middle east know that some men worship these beasts!).
I know these would be a major additions, but Mount & Blade is a major ground-breaking game, I think these ideas would add very of intersting aspects to the game.  I know that new mounts have been suggested, but now that the game has advanced so far, it is time to talk about enhancing gameplay, thus revisiting old ideas.
What do you think?

War elephants, maybe for a mod, but not in a northern enviroment

Incase you hadn't noticed, the whole world except the America's are in miniature in Calradia.  Also if you remember, in Carthage they used war elephants (remember?) and they were in north Africa, so war elephants aren't as far as you might think!

EDIT:
On side note, it is 99% likely that elephants cannot be modded, unless they are the size of horses.

i dont mind the idea of elephants to be honest, but it should take atleast a riding skill of 10 to use it, cause yeah its overpowered... so if you see a troop with it? it would only be a top tier troop nerfed beyond oblivion in all other areas...

Then yeah elephants fine, else nah stick to horses and maybe camels, but i couldnt take a khergit force serious if they charged the nords on camels.... in nord lands...

Northern africa, yes, that is africa, where its either deserts, dry plains, or jungle

And could you imagine the hit detect issues we would have with that? not to mention how unlikely you could fit icons of that troop on the map

Als if you haven't noticed, Calradia is way more northern then north AFRICA. Lots of ever greens, snow, and moist, mostly green plains.

And yes, elephants would be TO over powered, and also, Would ruin the feel (and name) of the game. I mean, CAMELS would be a better suggestion (They are faster then horses, but their soft pads restrict them in anywhere but soft desert sand)

no elephants.  it just would not fit anywhere in Mount and Blade and, speaking in terms of gameplay, would be way way overpowered.  Also, its been suggested many many times before.

You guys say Elephants would be overpowered, however they would be a good counter to the current overpowered heavy cavalry.  I don't really think they would be overpowered, archers could have a good chance against them, since they shoot the driver off and now the elephant is now a danger to enemies as well as friends.  Effective war elephants should probably be rare (since you need to tame them and get someone who can ride it), you would probably need a lot of riding skill to use them, so it is not like we will see 600 war elephants in king Yaroglek's party, they would be like tanks.  Adding elephants might make ranged weapons more effective, since javelins, crossbows and arrows would have an upper hand on elephants.  Spearmen might also be a good counter (think the Greek Phalanx against Persian elephants).  There is also a final tactic, fire, elephants are animals, and all animals are afraid of fire.
The AI will have to be programmed to dodge in elephant charges or not get trampled (friend or foe), remember those beasts are dangerous.
I think it will give the game a new and interesting perspective, with FIERCER battles!

Elephants have been made...Just not as player mounts. They're in the Legions Mod Extended mod.

That is what I mean, elephants as player mounts.

As I said, these old suggestions need to be revisited.

P.S. I am glad we agree we need camels!  :)

What I keep suggesting is there should be some way to create a system where mounts can have X number of passengers on them or X number of "subunits" associated with it. So while elephants are one potential item, I've always wanted to see chariots or War Wagons (the War Wagon would not be so out of place in a Vaegir army; make it a Gulai Gorod or so.)

I think its a good idea, after all war elephants were used extensively by some real world cultures...but even since Calradia is a miniture Medieval world, it doesnt represent the whole medieval world.

I think there is a lot of space in M&B  for further expansions, and mention of other lands are already there, if an indu inspired faction would exists some day, I would be thrilled to see them have Elephants.

again, plenty of space for expansions in terms of medieval kingdoms.

the elephant idea suits mods more than native. khergits are meant to represent mongols never used camels as a mount, camels could be added for steppe bandits i guess or just as a inventory item carrier to ease your load. i like the camel idea.

The geography of Calradia wouldn't sustain any elephants, it's far too cold and the lack of jungle enviornment support this. Mammoths on the other hand, are more likely due to the snow. Perhaps they didn't all go extinct during the Calradian Ice age (if there is one to begin with)?
