Count
So I had an idea today for a forum game based on vassalage. One problem I thought always occurred with forum games however is battle resolution, so I thought maybe an easy way to solve this is to use Warband as a way to resolve battle.

The plan is to keep the rules simple enough, yet allow for an imitation of medieval feudalism. Every player starts as a knight with a small fief they can develop. Better developed fiefs produce more tax, and allow you to maintain an army of NPCs, or hire mercenary players. The objective of the game is to rise as high as possible in the ranks of nobility gaining more power as more players become your vassals. For people who don't wish to be bothered with a fief, but do want to help out a friend with battles, they can become a household man-at-arms.

Ranks:
Emperor - Has three kings as vassals
King - Has three dukes as vassals
Duke - Has three counts as vassals
Count - Has three Barons as vassals
Baron - Has three knights as vassals
Knight - Has a fief

Starting Fief - income
10% developed farmland - 10 denari tax
10% developed pastures - 10 denari tax
Animal driven Mill - 5 denari tax

Building upgrades - cost - income
Up to 100% developed Farmland - 1 turn and 10 denari per 5% - 1 denar tax per 1%
Up to 100% developed pasture - 1 turn and 10 denari per 5% - 1 denar tax per 1%
Windmill - 2 turns and 30 denari - 15 denari tax (replaces animal driven mill)
Blacksmith - 3 turns and 35 denari - 20 denari tax
Market - 1 turn and 15 denari - 5 denari tax
I am open to more building ideas, since this list is pretty short, but if there isn't any interest, I'm not going to expand on it.

Troops:
NPC soldier - 10 denari to recruit, 5 denari to maintain per turn, only infantry and archers are allowed as NPC soldiers.
Mercenary - 30 denari to recruit for single battle, mercenary player may choose any class to play
Man-at-arms - 20 denari to recruit 10 denari to maintain per turn, man-at-arms player may choose any class to play, every player is only allowed to maintain two man-at-arms.

Rules of being a vassal:
1. You may become a vassal voluntarily
2. You can only accept vassalage from the same rank as your own, or immediately below you.
3. You can force vassalage through combat
4. If you force someone to become your vassal, or they voluntarily accept vassalage, but are too far below your rank, you must give them as a vassal to one of your own vassals.
5. If you are defeated in battle and have vassals, you may give up one of your own vassals. If you have no vassals, become a vassal of whoever defeated you.
6. Once you are a vassal, you may not contest it unless you are backed up by two other players who are not vassaled to the same person as you.
7. As a vassal, you must pay 5% of your tax income to your immediate lord, and provide NPC soldiers upon request, and provide additional assistance in battle personally no more than once every 3 turns.

Additional rules:
1. If defeated in battle, you will lose 5% farmland and pasture unless you are already at 10%
2. You also have a 25% chance of losing a building of your choosing
3. If you defeat someone in battle, you win loot equaling their income per turn.

Knights:
TDM
Troll
Zollum (championed by Jhnking)
Sushiman (Championed by Orion)
Jec94227

Mercenaries:
Magus77
Rallix

Maybe we could implement a rule where players can select a champion to represent them in battle, for people who can't play the battle, or just want to do the managing part of the game.

Also up for discussion: turn lengths.

I think this sounds like a cool idea. Sign me up!

EDIT:I dont really feel like the managing part of the game. I think Ill just be a mercenary player.

I'm in.

*EDIT*

Wait, isn't a baron higher up than a count?

*DOUBLY EDIT*

And will this be using the CRPG mod?

In the English ranks of peerage or whatever they call it, the baron is the lowest. It could be different elsewhere though.

I'll make a list of mercenaries and players on the OP.

Edit: No CRPG mod, I hope to use personal servers so that settings can be altered for specific battles, such as NPC numbers per side. As far as personal equipment, I think it would be fair to just set everyone at 2500 denari or maybe 3000. Or maybe I could set it to much higher, and just have an honor system of using no more denari than what your rank should have. That being said, personal equipment would not be related to tax income.

Edit2: I do have a small server that is midwest US. Hopefully we can get players who have access to larger servers and in different locations.

Do I have to pay Jhnking to be merc or does he just automatically join whoever's winning?
