Varyag

It's a problem with a lot of weapons in game, for example, the Vlandian mace versus Empire mace, or the Eastern Throwing Spear being the best melee spear with such high dmg compared to the other spears.
Throwing spears in general are much better than normal spears for some reason unknown to me

Imo the Varyag looks really ugly at the moment. The biggest thing bothering me is the awkward helmet. I would bring back the goggled and veiled Nord helmet, and maybe have them use the plated armor (same as either Shock troops or Veteran warriors in sp, can't remember) with the improved armor perk. The return to a more nordic look would be really justified since they're literally called "Vikings" (Varyag, varangian = Viking).

When chain attacking in 2h mode, the bastard axe is ridicolously quick.
Now this might have been fine BUT if you compare it to other weapons like bastard swords the difference is evident.
I mean i can't say i've ever swung a sword but shouldn't it be quicker than an axe?
On the other hand when the weapon is in 1h mode it's quite slow.Honestly it's fine if it's slower than other 1h weapons, i'd just tweak it a little to make it a bit faster than now, reduce the speed on the 2h chaining and it could become a good perk.

Dunno if anyone will read this, but I think i will bump this thread regardless. Because the next major update's looking to increase the price of cavalry units, maybe it'd be worth it for the Varyag to have his cost reduced to 150 to compensate?

Game mode should really be stated when talking about class costs. For skirmish, this change seems like it would unreasonably buff Sturgia. The Varyag is (imo) the best heavy inf in the game. Reducing cost to 150 would allow everyone to double spawn as a Varyag from round 1, which would be too strong. If anything, the problem with Sturgia is not the Varyag, it's the warrior and brigand.

@flashn00b is almost always talking about Sturgia in terms of TDM and Siege, and the problem with almost all of his suggestions and observations is that they are totally wrong for other game modes.

And even then I find that talking about balance in TDM or Siege which are confirmed casual game modes... doesn't really matter.

Funny thing that Sturgia is best faction at Siege atm specifically thanks to Varyag being a total monster in close quarters with default good axe, unbreakable shields, best sword and monstrous bastard axe

About modes, considering there are about 300 people online on this game MP everyday average and about 200 of them are playing TDM and Siege at most (which is obvious, as barely anyone who played MB SP wants to play some CSGO medival, most of people want grandiose big battle at about 100 people on field), not taking Siege and TDM balance into considiration is... bad idea

At least remove couched and 2h slashing from horses Talewords ffs on these modes its a nightmare, im almost ok with everything else

Im sorry but how increasing price of cavalry units is tied to Varyag at any way?

Because Raider's one of the few good units that Sturgia has. If they lose their 130 cost cavalry unit, then it's probably a good idea for Varyag to get a slight price decrease to compensate for this.

Rider? Good? Are you sure we are speaking about same game, because in Bannerlord rider is worst light cavalry, without OP couched lance option and without cavalry bow
Tbh whole Sturgia cavalry in MP is quite bad (only comparable to turtle-slow Cataphracts and Paper-HP Mamelukes) and its ok since its supposed to be an infantry faction instead of cavalry, and they do their job on ground pretty good atm
Sorry bro, but i dont see why you think Sturgia has no good units while it has almost every best land class in game, how in a goddamn you could call rider being "valuable" sturgian unit...

I'm probably just shouting at a wall at this point, but considering that the Vlandian Sergeant has gotten a Two-handed Sword to make up for his lack of bastard sword, I wonder if it'd be worth it for TaleWorlds to consider a two-handed axe perk.

I guess the best way to go about this would be make the 2H axe on Varyag be the same axe used by the Battanian Ranger (I mean, Empire has some Vlandian weapons in their arsenal), so as to not overstep on the Berserker's role.

Sturgia's Varyag still feels pretty underwhelming compared to other Heavy Infantry units even with the Padded Armor perk. And because TaleWorlds seems insistent about making the Varyag an axe specialist, I wonder if this would be a more favourable change:

Feller replaced with Two-Handed Axe:
Grants Two-Handed Woodcutter Axe (shared with Battanian Ranger)
+4% Movement Speed

Brawny movement speed increased to 7%

Maybe it's just me, but Brawny really makes Feller seem redundant, and there really isn't anything that compensates for the Varyag's lack of blunt weapons, while the Sergeant can carry a mace and greatsword at the same time (which I assume was supposed to make up for the removal of bastard weapons).

The suggested movement speed increase for Brawny is to help make it stand out from a two-handed weapon perk on a heavy inf

To be honest, they need perk redesign.
In first row give Cavalry Breaker, Axe and Sword&Shield. In second row give 2h Axe, Armor and Throwing Axes (or if you don't want them to have ranged, increased damage perk that isn't brawny). Increase damage a bit on Sword, default axe and perk axe. Increase default armor a bit or decrease shield weight.

Give them another set of pauldrons for armor perk, it looks awfuly out of pace, and it covers too much of area of sighting which worsens feinting
There are amazing pauldrons like silver lammelar ones, mail burnie, even a scarf in a singleplayer why we have none of these...

Please bring back throwing axes for this unit. Sturgia is supposed to be the best infantry faction, because they got NOTHING else going for them. Their ranged is laughably bad, and so is their cav. It makes no sense that Vlandia, which has the most overpowered ranged in the game that oneshots everything, and very good cav too, also has Sergeant which is atleast as good if not better as Varyag. This is just unbalanced, especially in siege. Please make Sturgia infantry better so their infantry can really shine and compensate for lack of ranged and cavalry.

Please replace better armor pauldrons to actualy armor, this bear skin looks out of chraracter and doesnt looks Sturgian at all
here are better examples
