Vaegrs fighting themselves

Apparently upon my annihilation of the Nords and Rhodoks (Rhodoks weren't even a challenge) the Vaegrs decided to have a small civil war. Those are apparently a really tough bunch of villagers or the game can't emulate fights between the same faction. I have been watching this fight for about 40 days and it is still going on I've also noticed that they're raiding they're own villages and also not succeeding.

I have a theory: the battle started when the villagers belonged to another faction. Before it was over, their village was captured by the Vaegirs and they changed allegiance, resulting in a Vaegirs vs Vaegirs battle which the game doesn't know what to do with. What happens if you try to join in?
