Vaegirs - what's their supposed historical counterpart, actually?

Hi all

I searched, but this gets so many hits, it's impossible to find an answer. So, does anyone know what people or country the Vaegirs in game are supposed to represent?

I mean, with Swadians it's pretty easy, they seem your standard "Central European" knights (Teutonic/Frankish). The Nords are also clear. Khergits are Huns, and the Saranids are Sarazens/Arabs.

Rhodoks are a tad hard to sort, but people have suggested they might be modelled after "Greek" ideas (Spears, large Shields).

But I have zero clue what the inspiration for the Vaegirs is. They have some of the best knights in game, but the shape of the gear looks more related to Khergits than to European stuff of the time. Polish/Russian maybe?

Vaegirs = Russians, the Boyar rank is the giveaway.
Rhodoks are the Italian city states like Venice and Genoa.  Spearmen and crossbows
The Old Calradian Empire is the Byzantines, all the existing factions are folks who gave the Byzantines major headaches.

Central Europe gave the Eastern Romans headaches? Please tell me when that happened?
4th Crusade, the Franks sacked Constantinople.

Actually i think the Swadians are based off of the Holy Roman Empire.... Just seems that all there troops/weapons/armor is more like the Holy Roman Empire.

Nords are Danish/Viking (i say Danish because they were actually more of a kingdom then just "vikings")

Khergits are often thought to be Mongolian but there was a thread showing links to a group of people that were like the Khergits, and they were from Turkey so....

Rhodoks, yeah Italian states (this also makes sense if Swadia is holy roman empire, because they had parts of Italy and Rhodoks are "rebels")

Sarannids(?) are Arabic/Egyptian right?

Vaegris, yeah Russians and other eastern Europe.

Thats my thoughts on it.

Didn't the Mongolians make it all the way to, or near Turkey?

Threads exactly like this have been started before and I can't count how many of them. Do search for answers there and lock this redundant thread.

4-th crusade... hehe, I think it was in one of the Horrible History's... that crusader were heading to Ierusalim, as usual, but due to the drunk sailors ended up in Constantinople... oh well, what's the difference, let's burn and plunder this one then!

There weren't "Russians" at the time, more like various Slavic tribes... dozens of them.
Vaegirs represent all of them in general. That's everyone to the east from Holy Roman Empire and to the north from Byzantian Empire.

And Khergits could be Mongols, easy.
Mongols also supposed to be very cavalry-spec'd, but also powerfull, overwhelming any "all-around" tactics of Orienal, Asian and Eastern European nations... They were stopped by lines of heavy infantry on oitskirts of Holy Roman Empire (Czech Republic is there now). Mounted archers simply couldn't do anything vs. wall of shields and armor. So, they settled on Eastern Europe and Asia then, slowly turning into Golden Horde, untill Timur came and kicked them out of Asia.
Or actually Khergits could represent Timurids... mongols as well, who just like all others just came from eastern steppes.

There were "Russians" at the time when the game is set, which is 1257..

Hm, ok, dozens of various Russians. I still don't believe, that even major nations, like Kiev's, Muskovites and Novgorod had much in common. Not to mention all the smaller ones.

The Rus.

Swadians are the HRE
Rhodoks are the Swiss/Italians
Khergits are the Kyrgyz
Nords are 9th-10th century Scandinavians
Sarranids are some Middle-Eastern/North African faction, I'm not acquainted with that area of history.
