USING GATEHOUSE in a SIEGE ???

OK heres the scene.

MY epic army of doom " read liberation front " awaits to storm the castle.

The glorious leader " Read player who thinks sometimes its fun to just leg it and lol a lot " runs up
the ladder on his own.

Glorious leader " from here on known as G.L. " Reaches top of battlements , maKES his LUCKY " skillfull"
kill , leaps over the heads of the dumbfounded " read slow AI " defenders
And  tacticfully " dodgey as F&** " makes towards the Gatehouse.

At gatehouse , after skillfully " headshot close range crossbow " dispatcing gaurd ...
G>L> opens gate by pressing the all powerfull F button and holding for 20 slowyly painfull seconds
while still installing BODY NUMBING FEAR " read bad Ai pathing allowing noone to enter as the gaurds keep looking at the ladder on the other side of the wall ".....

So. Ladder scaled.
Gate house reached.
Gate opened.

...... G.L. exits gatehouse , jumps to the floor and runs towards the gates.... which are now open./..
ENTIRE ARMY of the PLAYER LIBERATION FRONT are infront of the NOW open gate.

G.L> Yells " Follow me F2 command "  and ....... nothing....
G.L> under attack by stray defender then yells " Attack at will F whatever command "
And.... the entire army of " We have no higher education so we ignore open gatehouses "
Charhes up the dam ladders......

SIGH.

Patch pathways please people.
 
I saw the lever for this and instinctively assumed it didn't actually work, thanks for confirming :smile:

Wow, that is pretty fail. They definitely should patch this in.

Then again, pretty much every iteration of MB has crappy pathfinding. They still get stuck behind trees on an otherwise open plain after all.  :roll:
 
Sieges could be vastly improved anyways. They're horrible in many cases and very frustrating, either due to the huge amount of fail that combines when the whole army is on a ladder and can't move on because the one person at the top of it completely fails to rush in or due to the stupid siege tower ai which makes the attack of a heavily guarded castle nearly impossible (archers killing the infantry before they even get to the tower).
Multiplayer sieges are awesome though, why not make the singleplayer ones better :neutral:
 
Hehe.. No.. Two boulders.. THAT stops them.. 13 Taiga bandits crammed between two boulders.. It was like shooting turkeys, although.. Taiga Bandits taste better and don't take 4 hours to cook..
 
Ah yes...this happened to me, and because my men then charged up the ladders, about half of then were slaughtered............sigh
 
Battering Rams, Catapults, Pouring Oil (or Magma!)...lots of neat stuff to add to sieges. Right they're very fun, but after doing a bunch of them, it becomes a bit of a formula, ie cram through a bottle-neck, be nice to mix it up a bit for sure.
 
Many castles is impossible to open the gates.  I don´t know why the developers created  this feature to single player to a few castles, i tried the same, but they never use the gate when is open.

in multiplayer sieges with bots, availability of the gatehouse makes half the bots camp outside the gate, the other half trying to deploy the ladder.

im thinking the AI will do the same in singleplayer if the gates worked. half will hug the gate while the other half hugs the ladder. and if you choose not to open the gatehouse, the ones hugging the gate may still remain out there haha
 
This issue with the gate has been known for some time now. I wonder if there will be a patch in the future to fix this.
 
I'm going to have to check again because I opened a gatehouse up and after losing a load of my soldiers on the ladders, I could have sworn the reinforcements came through the open gate
