Using enemy horses DURING battles

Any reason why you're NOT able to have your troops / yourself use ENEMY horses during battles?

I often start the battle on foot, using a bow, and after chasing after the enemy and running out of arrows, I have to either walk all the way back to the start location to mount my own horse, or hope (?) that one of my own horse riders is killed nearby.

If you kill a badguy on his horse there's a chance the horse will stay behind so you can ride it. What you might have been having trouble with is you might not have had enough riding skill to mount the horses the enemy had.

From my experience, horses in the arena always stay if you personally killed the rider. But out in the field, seems random, with maybe a 10-15% chance of the horse staying.

I think the horse disappearance thing is due to the number of horses present in the battlefield. Apparently horses take up alot of memory, so if there are lots of horsemen about, or perhaps you ordered everyone to dismount at the start, chances are high a dead horseman isn't going to leave a horse behind.

All horses dissapear when their riders are
a) killed from an opponent on horseback
b) killed by anyone that isn't the player character

If you want to ride your opponents pony, you have to kill the guy from on foot.

Des -who's ditched a crippled courser he forgot to sell many a time in favor of some nice strong NEW hunter.

You can tell your minions to dismount and steal their horse, then tell them to mount again.

Only that doesn't work in the Arena.

sooo not true if you hit the rider WITHOUT without damaging the horse you can ride it(not the bad whore kinda way).

If the horse has enough health it will have 75% chance to stay.

I think it will stay if it falls to your share as a loot. That is an assumption though. I believe everytime an horseman dies, it calculates the chances that the horse will fall into your share of your loot and if it does, it will stay in the field. Just a wild guess.

Nope, that's not right. There have been a couple of times against Dark Hunters when my horse has been killed (And almost always crippled, the bastards) and I've pinched a hunters war horse only to not have it appear on my loot. This has always struck me as silly since you'd think because I'm riding it, it would stick around.

I think the reason why they don't allow you to do that is so if you start at level 1, and put a few points into riding and come across a vaegir scouts vs river pirates battle, you don't just order your allies to dismount and take a warhorse.

This discussion has morphed.

The original question was, how do you ensure that the horse of an enemy you kill will "stick around" -ie: remain solid- so you can ride it. The answer is, "you must kill your enemy from on foot".

This discussion has become 1) "how do I get a horse in the loot from my defeated enemies," and 2) "why don't I get to keep the horse I captured after the battle."
As for the first, who the hell knows? I would expect that it's random. Armagon may or may not choose to reveal how war booty is generated after battles.
As for the second, Armagan has stated that he has not allowed players to keep captured horses, because all it would do is encourage players to finish the battle on a captured horse, and he's not certain that that's a good enough reason to unbalance the game.

Thank you for playing, please attempt more coherence in future posting.
