Useless Equipment.

I have been playing M&B since .751 and i have always wondered why armagan and co. put some useless items in the weapon and armor shops. For instance, the wool cap +0 defense, cost around 30 gold, or those really bad peasent weapons, the ones that hit 3 piercing damage...do you know if there's a reason they did this? or was it too just add atomesphere to the game?
It doesent really bother me, im just curious.
And i know this should go in the suggestion forum, but it wont load... so do you think they're should be level caps for equipment?
Ex. Lvl 1 = peasent/leather armor.
Ex.2 lvl 10 = chainmail armor/ heavy mail.
what do you think?

I think that's a terrible idea.

Some people like to dress up like a peasant, or just use an unorthodox weapon.

Not every item is supposed to be spectacular. Many of those items are just in use by peasants and troops.

You shouldn't have to reach a certain level to wear armor.

Oh no, I have 10000 denars, but I can't wear the suit of mail I just bought until I kill enough people to obtain enough experience!

You have a good point, but i think it would make a fun mod, for us perfectionist's.
What im saying though is that you could be lvl one with full plate armor, best weapons  et cetera.
It just kinda annoys me i guess.  :???:

The weight of the said armour is already enough to make low level chars to have to use lighter stuff.
And also, some weapons and other items have a skill requirement. I mean, a bow with power draw 4 requires a character to have 12 points in the attribute governing the skill.
Which already makes the character have to wait a few levels.
If you want to go for, for example, a ranger specialist, then you can get your war bow soon enough, but you have to make compromises.

Basically, weight and the skill requirements should be enough to help a player decide.

Do you want to make a tank that can barely move in his heavy armour, or do you actually want to be able to run?
This is a role playing game, and everyone will eventually choose equipment to suit their needs. This is why I don't know if level requirements would be a good idea.

Those "useless" knives are better than bare fists imo. I've been there. I think the reason they are in the game is that the peasants can arm themselves at least with a rake or a pitchfork.
And I would rather have them wear at least something to hide their... polygons.

Fei Dao, I agree. Having a full suit of plate... Well, a lvl 1 guy can equip it, but moving will be difficult. Let alone fighting in it.

Indeed, level caps, that just screams MMO to be honest. If you have the money, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to buy and wear any type of armour or use certain equipment, it's up to you as the player to make such choices and compromises. And, as it's been pointed out, certain types of armour have drawbacks when used very early on, plate being one of them. I never use plate, simply because of the encumbrance issue, but if the player wishes to do so they shouldn't have to grind XP until they reach such and such level.

A lot of weapons and armour, though not often used by the player, are used by NPCs. There are peasants who use peasant weapons.

That's what they're for.

A compromise, might be less "useless" clothing for sale as "merchandise", more quality items for sale, but definitely don't take them out of the game, the NPC's need them, and roleplayers too.

That's partly true, because real shops selling quality merchandise wouldn't sell plain peasant shirts. However, the merchants in Calradia sell everything from Damascus steel swords to raggedy woolen caps, and everything in between. I doubt they'd give up the opportunity to sell cheap stuff, since they're in the secondhand trade anyway.

we're talking about a period here where there's no delivery trucks or giant companies with machines to make billions of armours in a few days. Obviously the shops are gonna sell whatever they get their hands on. Though shouldnt the shopseller be a blacksmith instead or something like that ?

If they were smiths (platners, actually), then they'd only sell metal stuff, wouldn't they?

No you can't. There's more to level restrictions than putting a minimum level or attribute on something. If you can buy and wear plate armour at level one you've pumped strength, this means you'll lack the necessary riding or athletics skill to actually get you to the fight in the first place (Assuming you make the right background choices you might be able to manage a courser). Of course, you'll also have sacrificed most of the non-str skills like leadership, prisoner management and the rest, which might make things tricky for you early on.

Weapons are a moot point due to the way piercing/blunt/cutting damage works, unless you're talking about a lance, but again without editing the character file you'll be stuck on a slow horse and not able to make much use of the lance.

o dear i just bought this heavy plate armor that i'm strong enough to carry, but i really cant wear because of this supernatural level barrier  im glad m&b allows me to be human again, not subjected to mmo urges and addictions to 'leveling up.'

Dont swadian man-at-arm's use two hander's?

P.s. - thanks for the feedback, makes sense, level caps = no.

Why don't any troops use two handed swords?

There are troops that use two handed swords. Swadian Sergeants use two handed swords. Also, various lords also use rare, unique, exceptionally powerful not sold in stores "two handed swords," and "great swords." Those two handed swords aren't your average sword of war - they do far more damage.

vonBlood 说:
Which sword would that be that the Lord's use?

There are 6 different two handed swords.

Bastard Sword
Heavy Bastard Sword
Great Sword
Sword of War
Two Handed Sword #Lord use only, not sold in stores
Great Sword (stronger version) # Lord use only, not sold in stores

Also, there's a unique bardiche as well.

Great Bardiche #Lord use only, not sold in stores.

However, these lord weapons have a 100% chance of being dropped during the battle, so you can pick it up off the field and use it temporarily during the battle.

I think I found the Bardiche some time ago and brought back into the game as player-usable (bardiche is one of my favorite weapons... excellent for clearing siege defenders).

The other two swords that ONLY Lord use that you are talking about I believe are:

Great Sword: (itm_sword_two_handed_a)
Speed: 89
Length: 120
Pierce: 31
Cut: 45

Two Handed Sword: (itm_sword_two_handed_b)
Speed: 93
Length: 110
Pierce: 31
Cut: 43
