Can't ask muscovite lord about the time of troubles. Why not?
I'm lvl 5, done the chief naum quest.
Talk to Clermont first, he will give you another quest.

New to this game and still have few questions...

1. You said own a city... how to own a city? Does it mean you rule the town or village?

2. I read the replies, to get higher rank unit someone said need to hire all officers, does it mean the NPC in tavern?

3. To start Polish storyline you said complete 3 village quests, is it the 3 quests given by the village at the beginning of game?
(I finished them and ask the lord for special mission all said no task for me)

4. The storyline does it mean to join that country to fight for them?

5. I only saw 3 storyline, so that means no storyline for Sweden?

1. Yes it means that you are the ruler of it. When you besiege a town and win the battle for it you can ask your king to grant it to you.
2. No, its when you speak to mayor. There is option to improve city, hire officers/officials and build buildings.
3. Yes.
4. In a way, lots of s you will need to be rebel faction and fight them during a quest.
5. Yes, Sweden and Crimean Khanate do not get a storyline.

So after capture a city, go back to the King of that nation ask for the town? Is there any requirement needed like renown?

Which nation's troop is the best?

Yes, renown is required, people say that having around 150renown and higher is best. Before then, it's best not to bother, but to raise renown (most easily acquired by fighting larger armies with your smaller force, which may or may not be really feasible with low-tier troops)

Oh, and Crimean Khanate's troops are the best, imho ... most people would say Swedes for their cav and musketmen, Cossacks for musketmen, Polish for Hussars though

Well that means the best two nation have no storyline

How about Mercenary camp? Swedes? Or not much difference? LOL

For the storyline:
its not question of renown (mine is up to 300) its about the partnership with your choosen kingdome. its need to be 100 or very close to it. When i reach 96 my king is start to give me special quests (protect some kind of relic, and capture warsaw).
You can boost the partnership with following your choosen kingdome lords, helping they in battle - and renew your contract always.

Hmm on the question of the storyline, so if I play through any one of the storylines, I can get to be king? And if I do not play through a storyline, I will be in an endless game, forever will be a lord under some king?

Can I ask how useful bows are in comparison to grenades/firearms?
They are good for killing of unarmored lower tiers troops. Mid tier and upper tier are always armored so it's better to use a firearm.
Tatars use a lot of bows, Cossacks and Moscovites and Poles use less.  Bows can be useful when you're not fighting a lot. I always buy a double barrel pistol its fast and you can reload it while moving.

Have you noteced that other marksmen can reload their musket while running?
Weird might be a bug or just so it shall be? but not realistic when players cant.!

I believe tax will only charge when you send caravans, but you won't get that much stock if you use your inventory as caravans

How do I complete the ,,Hidden Cache'' quest ???  The elder doesn't take passwords, do I have to find it in the village ???

Go ask different nation's lords or generals, the answer on my quest is a French phase

Do I and my men gain more experience harder difficulties?

I'm not 100% sure, but in the earlier installments of Mount and Blade (normal and Warband), difficulty did not affect either money or xp gained. It just let your men and you survive easier so that they may live to see another battle and thus get more xp in the long run.

So, 99% sure difficulty does nothing regarding the xp.

Several questions

Just got a special sword made by the Weapons master - got the message it is odne - but cannot pick it up with him, the taverne or the weapons merchant - what do I do?
2. Are mercs better then standard troops from factions - as it looks like the standard troops can be upgraded...mercs not?
thanks a lot!

1. Need to go back to the city you order the sword, click town center, and weapon master, continue, make my purchase, then will jump back, hit continue again and you should have you weapon. If you can't see the town center option that means it is under siege, wait until the siege is over and enter again.

2. Mercenaries from tavern can not be upgrade, troops from factions and mercenary camp can, mercenary camp troops: recruit -> experience -> veteran -> elite ( but $$$$$ )

dude can you change the armour of your volunteers from your faction? and how do i loan my mnoey and stuff i wana make tons of money, and how do i get a castle, do they not vote for someone like they did in warband or do i have to go off and get it myself?
