Use Blunt Weapons Only

IS there really any point to this command? I admit it's mildly awesome to see a battle line of Rhodok Spearmen with a massive board shield and their fists, it's not terribly effective. It seems like most troops don't have blunt weapons, so I'm not sure I see the point of this command.

Anyone find a use for it? It seems like my choice is to either watch my troops die horribly or get them to kill stuff I want to capture.

I use the command when I need to capture specific kinds of troops for lords or when i have to do that mission where you have to arrest a spy and his master.

I use it very often.  Mostly it is good if your troops have good armour and you are fighting enemies with poor arms and armour.  Specifically, "blunt weapons only" is a good command when you're fighting looters alone.  I tell my troops to sit tight, and I do the majority of the fighting.  The few looters who get past me will get the stuffing socked out of them.

Well before all the old guard uses the "use search" I will tell you.

It lets your troops actually knock the enemy out and you can sell the prisoners you take to a ransom broker or slave trader for some pretty decent money. You need to have some prisoner management skills to utilize this though.

Edit: Use this early on looters with around 2 or 3 prisoner management and it's some nice starting silver.

Double Edit: Use blunt weapons on your companions as back ups and they will pummel a few. Or just use your own blunt weapon and bash some skulls.

Read his post more carefully, Plaguedog.  His issue is that his men are easy kills when they don't have a weapon.  My answer is to only use it against very weak foes.  That doesn't solve the issue of how to capture high-tier troops without doing it yourself, but there doesn't really seem to be a good solution to that.

The main thing that's annoying me is the "Capture the spy" mission. There's 2-3 people you need to capture and they have friends with them.

Well it is just a quest anyways. But again use something blunt yourself and bash they're ****ing skulls.

The command is there to take prisoners, that was the point of my post. (weak prisoners at that)

i think this command would be awesomme for taking prisoners.I remember i used to be annoyed when i was knocking out armies by myself to take prisoners, and then i got really happy when i found this since i could aactually use my amry to help with it
Then when i was gonna use it there was a bug so whenever i use it my armies(swadian knights+companions) just stop moving, like theyre frozen or something and u can hear a weird glitch-like sound. When i tell them to take any weapon they want they start fighting again though..
Anyone else had this problem? i would love to fix this and then put some point in prisoner management.

The glitch sound is probably your troops sheathing their weapons and drawing their blunts. They do not move into the battle because they don't have a blunt weapon to use. If yout heroes do not have a blunt weapon or an open weapon slot, they will not engage when you order blunt instruments only. Hence they stay still.

What'd be nice is a minor tweak to the command that tells troops to use blunt instruments if they got them, troops that do not have them will use their regular weapons. Or perhaps just for defensive purposes.

Of course, a sword or an axe can be used as a blunt weapon, so the could just hit with the flat of the blade or go with a mordhau which is holding the sword by the blade and striking with the hilt.

If you want troops that come equipped with blunt most of the time use khergits. But like the others said it's usually only used against weak enemies or when you really need to capture someone (i.e. that darned spy and his master).

I only ever use it early on when it's just me and my companions who I know I gave a spare blunt weapon to. Character + 8 companions lots of blunt weapons = lots of prisoners + ransom broker = money. I also give them sharp nasty weapons as well in case we run into something dangerous. So yes use blunt weapons is very important to me early on when money is tight.

Give your Heroes a blunt weapon, shield, bow, arrows, and a horse. Voila! With the blunt weapon command, they don't ride off when you tell them to hold position, since they take out their blunt weapon and put the bow away. Also useful with a party of 16 Heroes to take lots of prisoners.

All my companions have bows, and balanced warhammers, so I find this is an invaluable command, for those times when your companions will be easily able to deal with the enemy and you want to make sure that they get the XP, and not some already maxed out troop.

Sadly, they took out the command for controlling companions only after 0.808, and this is a good simulation of it.

Mind you, at the moment, I'm running a modded game with only companions, but am making a killing on the capture of bad guys, due to a high charisma and prisoners skill.

All of my mounted heroes have a balanced quarterstaff or balanced iron staff as their first weapon.  There have been occasions when we have attacked 32 sea raiders and have taken 28 prisoners.  Good for finances early in the game, good for future recruits later.

Nord troops has my favourite maces, those blacks, can't remember the name atm, I'm tired, if I remember right, so it's kinda useful when having them.
