Upcoming games you nitpicky ****bags look forward to ***** about in the future.

That's not really being picky, 'bearable to actually play' is the first thing to tick off before wondering about any other stuff. If it's not, then well-written lore, characters, etc. can all be experienced on your streaming platform of choice.

Y'all just jealous of Korean superhero console games based off MMOs.
Is there any Asian game at all that's serious about realism? I don't think Asians want realism in their games for some obscure cultural reason.

It looks like a tech demo rather than a game, where they've crammed in every experimental technical effect regardless of how cluttered it looks, giving combat this weird unreadability that makes it impossible to tell what's going on. The setting looks almost offensively generic.

I kinda like it. If the effects become a little more balanced and tweaked (to the point it doesn't lagggg) it will be a big success. Graphics look amazing, that will be enough to try it for most people.

The effects look cool at times in the video, but the combat just looks jerky and repetitive. I don't know if I can play another game where I'm mashing one button, maybe sometimes holding it down for a strong attack, and watching my guy do the same 4-5 animations over and over.

I've actually often wondered about this.. Why is it that every Asian game (made in Asia, not about Asia made in the west) I ever see is so full of fantasy and flashy effects? What examples exist of grounded, relatively realistic games made in Asia that I may not know of?

The main reason: Japanese games (what most people mean when they say "asian" or worse still "eastern") have always been fairly low budget affairs made by small teams with little formal experience, so very few of them try to compete with the unstoppably thicc companies like Ubisoft or EA etc by making "realistic" shooters or open world games.

Other reasons I can think of:
1. As massive as Japanese publishing corporations are, most of them still see video games the same way that English companies did in the early 80s, i.e. weird auteur curiosities made by and for weirdos. Even relatively niche games have well known and public game directors who are basically given a free reign, meaning most games are unrestricted surreal fantasies made by freaks like Kojima or ZUN.

2. Most of the money is in games aimed at otakus, i.e. anime adaptations and handheld jrpgs, especially recently. There is almost no (perceived) domestic interest in stuff like call of duty, and the few attempts the big companies have made to try and compete with American companies have all failed. One of the most popular and profitable games in Japan right now is a mobile loot box game with anthropomorphised naval vessels, and yes they all have big tits.

3. The fixation with realism and groundedness in big budget games is something that mainly came out of America in the 90s and influenced the rest of the world, it's not really the "organic" state of video games and not how game industries started. It's just that Japanese games were never completely taken over by corporate decisionmaking.

4. There is a whole abstract language of sounds and visual effects in Japanese that is mainly proliferated through TV, and since Japanese people watch a hell of a lot of TV, this visual language is carried over to video games as well.

Well, Japanese weirdness doesn't account for Chinese, Korean or South East Asian gaming taste. They consume Japanese weird ****, but they also have their own preferences. For the Chinese we know they like their pseudo-historical hero sagas about fighting and superjumping.
Maybe the common thing in the region is the ubiquity of fantasy MMOs that are meant as short term, casual and pure escapism devoid of meaning.

I did notice so many cultural differences during my 1 month in Japan that this does not surprise me at all. I remember one day all giant TVs everywhere were broadcasting for the entirety of the day (and I'm not exaggerating, I saw this same thing in the hostel during the morning, every big TV in Ginza during the day, and in a small restaurant during the night) in super slo-mo and molecular level zoom how a dude in the diet (their parliament) softly slammed the table because he got angry during a session.

Also, while it's safe and all, all those office workers were getting HAMMERED every single night and they would seem to want to start a fight if you looked at them for more than 3 seconds on the train, but then you'd see girls walking at 1 AM with short skirts in the middle of tiny alleyways on their own while using their giant smartphones just fine. Strange place indeed ?‍♂️

PS: They also had these weird places every 2 blocks (again, not exaggerating, they were everywhere) where you could rent a tiny room (with a TV and porn, I guess) for 30 minutes so you could jerk off in private.

Yes, I spent a **** ton of money to go to Japan with my girlfriend so that I could go into tiny jizzed rooms to masturbate. 10/10

In all seriousness, I believe they do that because they don’t even have privacy in their own tiny homes? That was my guess back then.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge than I do will shed a light on this but my guess would be this as well.

Graphics look amazing,
The game looks good because they are using their high tier tech demo pc - and even that is barely handling the game. Which is I think the extremely awful thing to do. If you are gonna make a World Premiere Video and you are able to count FPS by hand, at least dim down settings a bit so that people won't say that this stuff runs at 10 FPS.
So unless I see that game running on normal consumer pc's with same graphics as an MMO, I won't praise the graphics. Apart from that, I guess there aren't much info rather than PR stunts - like some interviews with dev team which doesn't give any info about the game at all. hell, I couldn't even find if this game is MMO or not. Some say it can be also played singleplayer? Not sure how that works. I guess they are aiming for something like Elder Scrolls Online.

This is where Japan differs from other East Asian Singapore ripoff states like China and Korea, in that as well as working 12 hours in a soul crushing job you have to go out and get drunk with your boss at the end of the day. Literally everywhere in Asia, even the Islamic theocracies, has severe problems with alcoholism, but in Japan it's basically unrestricted by gender and socially enforced. The side effect of this is that people don't find drunks scary the way they do in most other countries, because there isn't an obvious link between alcohol and

It's probably for people who "live" in internet cafes, or who are at work for so long (sometimes days at a time) that they feel the need to whack off in their lunch break.
