Unusual Lag On the Battlefield

So with the never versions of Mount and Blade, ive noticed an unusual framerate drop on the battlefield.

Some of the time it doesn't show up, but when it does, the game becomes unplayable whenever my character is looking at a certain section of the battlefield. It doesn't matter if there's just one unit, or 50 in that area, the game starts to lag significantly.

As soon as I look in a different direction, even if that direction has more units, the lag immediately stops.

My video options currently give me 220% performance, so I'm really not sure what to do. Help would be greatly appreciated, and I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before, i did a quick look through the stickies and various threads, and didn't see anything similar to my problem.

Is this happening when too many trees around ?? Because that is the only lag i am getting. also try turnning shadows off it is really an fps killer.

All shadows are off, it's really perplexing. I thought my computer was just getting bogged or something, so I ran a virus scan and defragmented the hard drive. No change.

I recalled getting much better performance on the older versions, so I downloaded version .751 and tried it out with 100s of units, to see if my computer was just having issues, but I got barely any lag in comparison to what I'm getting right now.

Of course, still the same issues.

Edit: I've gone through most of the game versions and noticed this lag actually seems to start around version 0.8. I've turned off every setting I can find to no avail.

Hate to bump this, but I could really use some help?

Specs: Windows XP, 512 mb ram, 2.8 ghz Dual Core Pentium 4, ATI X300

I have similar problem. Even more interesting is the fact, that I played M&B for very long time without anything unusual and in the same version (v. 1.011). Now for some f*ck*ng reason, which isn't quite known to me, I have this strange (and sometimes funny) problem. I have tried probably every possible setting, I even re-installed game several times and I still have this problem.

In EVERY siege battle, doesn't matter how big, i have (from time to time) strange lag with controls: my hero react with too long response (even so "esc" and "tab" keys and mouse) and I would say that sometimes he doing just what he wants (running along for intervals of few seconds and even changing direction of movement and sight). Unfortunately I have no regret for such libertarian behaviour among caste of knights...

I would appreciated any help.

And of course sorry for my English.

Try changing the drivers.I had problems with the new 9.3.1 drivers, and after i switched to the newest omega drivers (based on 7.12 catalyst i think) the problems disappeared. There are apparently some problems with the compatability of M&B and newer ati drivers.Hope this helps. It sure helped me

Damn!
This will be even more funny:
Problems are under omega drivers indeed less significant and less often but they remain..

Strange...
