Units coming in waves?

I've noticed something with big battles. I had a party of 51 and besieged a Swedish city. they sallied forth with about 60 infantry, but they came in waves. 20 light infantry and marksmen came and we anhiliated them, then about 40 heavy pikemen came and caused a lot of trouble for me. my marksmen were wiped out and i was left with a couple of cavalry. suddenly about 12 of my cavalry with some companions come from the horizon and just charge in, winning the battle for me. why is everything in waves? is it because of a unit limit in the settings? should i just leave it on max?

Thanks

If you go to game options there's a "battle size" slider. Setting that higher will increase the number of units on the battlefield at any time to an extent. If your game doesn't lag with a lot of bots in a scene you should turn it all the way up.

EDIT: The tactics skill will allow you to enter a battle with more units than the enemy, giving you a slight advantage.

ah i'd prefer if it was just one big continuous battle

If you truly want big battles download Warband battle sizer :smile: Allows you to turn up the slider for up to 2000 units. Big battles require strong computers however, and I don't think 2000 is even doable. Would probably crash. Still, I play battles of 400 troops on the screen at once quite smoothly.

Or just edit the battle size using the config file found in the Mount&Blade WFAS folder in your documents.

Here's the "official" walkthrough to changing it-

Go to C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\Mount&Blade With Fire and Sword\
and open rgl_config.txt

Find the line "battle_size =" with a number #

# = battle size of
0 = 30
1 = 150
2 = 270

etc.

Or, algebraically:
Number to Input into the RGL file = (Number of Troops You Want - 30) / 120
So, if you want a battle size of 400:
400 - 30 = 370
370 / 120 = 3.0833333
You would make the RGL line look like:
"battle_size =  3.0833333"

Oops, well thanks for correcting me.

Yeah. To clarify, let's say you have the battle size set to 100 and your army of 100 fights an enemy army of 100. 50 units from each side would spawn. If you have more tactics skill however, you may get 55 units from your side spawning and only 45 on their side, just as an example. There's likely more to it than that but the general idea is that more tactics skill is better.
