Unit balance really needs to be looked at

Why don't you make a test.Give some crappy units to the nords and some fantastic to vaegirs.You think vaegirs would beat them easily? No they would not, the only thing that matters for battles between computers are numbers.I saw many times lords loosing a battle from bigger group of looters

I rebalanced the party template and loaded more T6 and above units to the nations that have fared the worst (Khergit, Nord, Rhodok) and rebalanced their spawns to play more to their strengths.  I also took out a lot of T3 or below units.  Boosted the Swadians as well, mostly in terms of numbers, because they're stuck in the middle and need something.  So far the result is that the Nords immediately took Curaw from the Vaegirs, and while the Swadians took one castle from the Rhodoks it isn't a free for all on their territory at least.  It's still early in the test game, but my adjustments I've noticed have also made opposing AI tougher for the player in the field which I consider a bonus..

Will supply the party_templates.txt if asked.

I would be interested in your modified file.

Im not working on balancing the faction trees, but generally reworking party size and reinforcement speed. However if your changes improve the overall balance, we might as well implement them or at least i will base my own changes upon them.

Adding on to the general Vaegir *****ing, the Bogatyr and their entire troop line has a HUGELY disproportionate amount of HP, the Bogatyrs have 71 HP which is pretty ridiculous even for a Hero, much less a unit. You pretty much can't go wrong with Vaegir troops, strong archers and two amazing Cav lines, one blunt and one that just kills.
 
That whole blunt line is bloody amazing to say the least. The tier 3 unit superior to most tier 3 infantry in the game. The two handers are impenetrable in siege defense since they 1-2 shots most guys.
 
To say nothing of the Tier 6 Elitniy Druzhennik.  PAINFUL.  And all blunt weapons making them the perfect minions for a Charisma build.
 
That and the fact that it looks like Vaegirs are the only faction who actually train up troops above level 3 (even if it is only the Druzhenniks). Would be very interested to know if future releases will either fix the Vaegirs, allow other factions to train high level troops or both?
 
I have a possible Nord's roster to suggest.

* The A5 and A4 should be no better archers than A3, to avoid Nords having great archers, just decent ones. The upgrade should grant them better armour, melee weapon, and melee proficiencies. That way, it'll emphasize the Nords expertise in infantry combat, as even the archers can double as infantry.

Additional Note:
- All infantry, starting at tier 3 should have throwing weapons. The axe/shield and 2hand-axe units should throw axe, and the spear/shield units should throw spear.


I think this capture the Nords experience well.

1. The roster is not one-dimensional. Every other faction is not one-dimensional, so neither should the Nords. Giving them a proper archer unit (capped at T3) means they have some range support.
2. Unique archers to better fit the Nords infantry warfare by making their A4 and A5 archers able to double as proper infantry, perhaps with decent armour, 2hand-axe, and melee proficiencies.
3. The Nords infantry should be the best, not only in quality, but also in versatility. They have:
- axe/shield units for shield walls, and siege offense/defense
- 2hand-axe units for charging and siege defense
- spear/shield units for anti-cavalry
4. All infantry has throwing weapons make their infantry unique, and set them heads and shoulders above other infantry. Basically, the closer one approaches the Nords infantry, the more dangerous it become. First arrows from the okay-ish archers, then a hail of throwing weapons, then of course the melee rumble.
5. Axe-maniacs. Their two best lines of units are axe carriers, and their archers should carry axe as well.

I think this roster is simple enough, and covers all the basis for the Nords.

Due to new scripts and orders spearman should be quite efficient against horses.

(This only counts if we included the new version of Pre Battle Orders in the patch :grin:)
 
I have ideas for other factions as well, but I think the Nords need the most "love" right now.

That occurred to me as well. However, I thought 3 lines is too little for the troop tree, and anything but spearmen simply don't fit the Nords I think. We can limit the amount AI lords recruit them I think.

You guys know where I can learn to mod the troop tree? I want to give it a try. Also, any advice on game balance is greatly appreciated as well.
