Unit balance really needs to be looked at

If there is a problem of composition, maybe you need to look at the party templates with morgh's tools

Just give them not spears, but twohanded polearms like glaives or so. Such units rock pretty good.

Thanks people, I'll have a look at those items. Glaives can be a good idea, and I'll look at the armor. If you see any other points that can be improved, don't hesitate to mention them!

How about making shield optional again, at least for lower level troops? Currently every measly peasant is giving Rhodoks and Khergits a pretty hard time with their big ass shields.

If you are having problems with your troops' performance with their shields, then order them to not use them!
F6-F6 should do the trick.
Probably should break them into a separate division in your Party Window, first, so you aren't ridding all your infantry of their shields, just those troops you want.

I, erm, think he had a problem with the arrow-blocking shields of his enemies, not those of his own troops.

Heh. So it seems. 'tis what I get for a drive-by posting. You win some and lose some, I suppose.

Hmm, maybe I'll help you guys out a bit.

Know how I made a troop tree that works for the basic version?
I'll port that to the new(expanded) version(if I can). I think the reason plenty of people liked my tree was because it's much like native's, except I put three times the effort into each individual soldier than many people.

im playing with the rhodoks and its very hard to kill an enemy with a shield ! even with A5 crossbow-units !!!
and the rhodok infantry is really weak, especially the lancers, they are gettin killed in 0,1 milliseconds.
so its really frustrating because 70% of the enemies are using a shield !
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!!

you should fix this in the next version ( reduce the hitpoints of some shields)

a question:
do the unit stats and equipment influence the battles between AI and AI ?
because the nords and the khergit are getting blown away by the vaegirs and the sarranid empire!

LoL. Guys, make some calalry. Place your archers at some point, block carging enemy with cavalry, retreat a bit and watch the massacre.

Right now - yes, I don't have time because of the exams. But taking some cavalry to the right, then going through enemy charge make them turn and brakes shieldwall. Especialy if you have some lancers. To get rid of enemy archers - ride with some cavalty around them. This will give your infantry time to get close. And if you have mounted archers... Well, I played on the full damage on the 1.0, so there were no formations. I don't no how AI is using reiforcements. And on the low level battles - just place some archers in line, and make ai stupidly follow you and some cavalry in circles. Archer will do the rest  Don't go straight to the enemy, don't make your archers charge and don't forget to retreat to keep your cavalry in sort of fist. If you have problems with cavalry - use trees/terrain. PL adds some places fitting your archers perfectly. Don't make your cavalry charge uphill. Just typical tips, working for every difficulty. With 1/2 damage and high tier cavalry - you will be able to end big battles with 1-2 troops killed

I've got a saved game at about 250 days and the Rhodok's are no more and the Nords own one castle.
Swadians (my faction) have been at peace with all other factions for ages...

Not too fussed as in my plans it doesn't really matter who owns what ... It will all be mine!!... But a bit sad about the loss of diplomatic options and alliances.

I just played with the Nords, where we outnumbered the Vaegirs by more than 2:1, yet we lost quite badly.

Then I helped the Nords defend Wercheg, and there too we lost. It was the nature of the defeat that was worrying. We lost with less than a 1:1 kill ratio. The one thing you expect the nords to be half decent at is siege, both attack and defense. I think the Nords could really benefit from a proper archer unit, like the Nords Veteran archer they had in Native.

I agree. North is made over the Vikings and the Vikings boasted of how strong the arches they could shoot at war. In general, all Northern unit had either bow or throwing weapon, as it fits pray to the Vikings. And free me from serf at North since it has no basis in reality.

By giving them a proper archer unit line they won't be so one-dimensional (which they are right now, and the only faction that is so one-dimensional) as in they have nothing but infantry to depend upon.

The archers should not be all that great I agree. A tier 5 perhaps. Perhaps make them a bit special by giving them a 2hand axe, and being pretty good at it, so they can double as an infantry. The Nords remain the best infantry faction, but they'll get much needed boost with some archery support.

I think that Nords should be all about axes. As melee weapons, they should either have an axe/shield combination or a 2-hander axe. For those without bow&arrow, for tier 4 and beyond, they should all carry throwing axes.

With strong infantry and a half decent archer unit, they can become siege specialist once again. On the field, without heavy-cavalry, horse archers, and top notch archers, they can rely on their shield wall and overwhelm the enemies with thrown axes.

This makes it especially difficult playing as the Nords. Sandwiched between Swadia and Vaegirs, they're up against some of the best cavalry in the game. But more importantly, I find that it is much more difficult to raise a Nords army early on without the training skills because even the tier 4 units aren't that much better than the Sea Raiders.

A half decent archer line, and more throwing weapons will go a long way to help the Nords I think.

yes the nords need an approvement ... but no one tals about the khergit i think they are the weakest right now !
