I don't see how Village has improved.  At all.

The only way to improve this map is to take away the "seige" feel to it.  You could simply move the inside spawn, outside, opposite the other spawn (add ladders to get in the town) then place flag spawns in such a way to discourage camping.

The map is still this:

O.K. guys we can go in one of 4 entrances, which do you think the other team won't be camping?

tl;dr Village still needs a lot of work to be considered balanced and above all, fun

Wanna balance village? Start one team at back gate, one team at front gate, remove the portcullis and replace it with double doors, add a ladder to the opposite side of middle tower's only entry in vanilla, and move the flag spawns. Consider adding ladders to roofs which are quicker to access for one team than the other if these roofs are in the middle of the map. Also consider replacing raise-able ladders with fixed ladders to mirror ladders across the map (the raise-able ladder to the roof near back gate, while front gate has nothing similar). I might even consider adding some kind of bridge between the roofs on either side of the back gate, so attackers can go up one side and push the other without making an awkward jump.

Basically, give rooftops more than one entrance, replace raise-able ladders with fixed ladders, make both teams spawn either inside or outside (not one of each), and replace the portcullis with open doors.

You might also consider swapping the short ladder at cushions with a small gatehouse similar to the one at the stables.

MotF positions could include the short ladder at cushions, the large roof of middle tower (if you put it up here, make sure there's some kind of connection from another roof so you don't have to climb ladders to contest), and at stables. This puts one MotF near each team's spawn but next to an easy exit for cav, while the middle is the most neutral position on the map and is bound to be contested. You could also consider putting the cushions/stables MotFs just outside of the walls to mitigate the ease with which they could be camped.
 
Get rid of new village pls. Old one was better. By old one, I mean the one from beta where you could get on roofs. Good stuff.

Tbh these are most of the changes i made to the map...  :lol:

Anyways, right now based on the feedback I've got (though I pretty much only got it from wK vs HB) seems like the most important thing village needs is adding more ways the different entrances can support each other. Right now, there's basically two routes: main gate or back gate, with two smaller routes which are used to support the other routes (side roof ladder and barn door)... Xd

Tbh i'd vote no for this map neckst season, though.

New Village: Nords

I wasn't much of a fan of New Village, tbh mostly for the reasons others have listed it had a siege type feeling. However, I did like Quagmire, I think some interesting strategies could be played on that map, and it's fun to play on.

I think we should add a poll the following week after playing on the maps to determine whether or not the community liked them.
 
When it comes to a map like Village (New or old) it can't really meet the qualifications for a battle type map. I wouldn't say its unfair or unbalanced per say, just Idk, un-fun?

Just as new hills have been added to what was once open plains (now legacy plains), Village is very archer heavy, and huge changes would have to be made to it, to turn it into a map that is not a archer map. Having played on new port assault, I would say the same for that as well (just like old port assault) Even with changes, these maps are archer maps, unless it becomes a completely new map.

I guess the goal of all maps is to be both fun and balanced, closed and open maps should be accessible to all troop types. If a map feels like its pro archer or so on, it doesn't feel right to me.

While this tournament is meant to test maps, I do have to wonder sometimes if we are over complicating things. Maps like nord town, ruins, fbtr, classics that are largely considered balanced---- are we replacing or adding more just for new variety, while sacrificing the simple characteristics that made the generic maps fun? I kind of wish the next major tourney would just have default maps, its not likely a popular opinion, but I did have more fun in those days when maps were simpler.

Playing the same maps over and over isn't fun (for me).  Map making spices things up, and I'm appreciative of those who are helping with that.  I like some original maps too, but I think a balance of  (good) old and new will make a great tournament.

That's ok, It's the one team camps grave or ginger. Wait for flag, push into fortified position.
