Unable to restore vertex buffer

I recently bought mount and blade and I've had warband for a long time now. I can have about 300-400 battle sizes with high graphics on warband. But when I play mount and blade I keep getting rgl error unable to restore vertex buffer on 200 battles with textures and everything turned down. I've only played last days mod for mount and blade. Is there anything i can do to limit these errors.

Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz
8 gb ram
with windows 7

Try playing with only 100 man battles.

Well i guess what im asking is if its a problem that my computer, the mod or just the games engine.

The game or possibly ATI's drivers not supporting M&B anymore. 
I upgraded to a Radeon 6950 2gb and now I keep getting the error vertex buffer error.  Sorta funny how I am running out of memory when my graphics card has enough memory to run an entire copy of the game and I have 6 gigs of ddr3 ram. 
It is pretty lame having to set my textures to 50% and most everything at low or 0 so that I can fight 8 battles instead of 3 before I crash considering my system should be able to pwn this game no prob.

95% of crashes with M&B are cured using enhanced version and Large Address Aware program if you have windows 7 64 bits (Large Address Aware let  you use 4 Gb of Ram instead of 2Gb on M&B)
