Unable to lock vertex buffer

Sergeant at Arms
Whenever I'm in a siege battle that takes too long (AKA, more than 150 killed), I get an RGL error "Unable to lock vertex buffer". I think it has something to do with the amount of dead bodies, but I'm not sure. Anyone else have this, or a solution for it? Kinda ruins the game... I'm running M&B 1.011 and I use DX9

It has been reported earlier and indeed has to do with too many Bodies..

It's an error that occurs when the graphics card takes too long to respond.

Set a limit for the amount of dead bodies.

Only possibility for that is 20? Or is there some other way to set a limit...?

40 should be possible as well..

It might not solve the problem, though, as other entities (weapons, arrows etc.) are still visible it will possibly just take longer for the problem to appear..

Best solution is to turn to DX7..

It has to do with too many bodies, too high graphics, and too many living bodies. If you turn down your battlesize and your graphics settings, you should eradicate the problem.

Battlesize is only at 179 at the moment. Which graphical settings do you recommend I turn down? Got everything at max, except grass density at 50%. Never really experience any lag, but as I asked earlier, which settings? Would it help removing graphical enhancement mod?
?

EDIT: BTW, any way of setting corpse limit to, say, a hundred?

EDIT2: Hmm, now I just got the same error after auto-simulating a siege...

EDIT3: Turned down to DX7, I'll see how it goes.

Mercenary, you might be right on that one. My CPU has been giving me some troubles in the past...

Ahh, ****. Just got the RGL error with DX7 in a siege.

With my current graphics settings, I'm at 81% performance and it never lags. (DX7) My only problem is that RGL error in any major siege, it's pretty gamebreaking.

I have the same problem. I'm running a 1gb hd870 and an e8600 dual core overclocked to 4.2 ghz and I still get this error whenever I initiate large sieges. I've had open land battles with max battle size and don't have any problems, so I know it has to do something with the sieges themselves. If anyone knows anything, i'd appreciate the help.

My current system specs are:

2.40 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor rated at 4.68 GHz

2814 RAM (Got 3, but won't register more than that)

GeForce 8600 GTS, 512 MB VideoRAM

XP

So I should be able to run M&B pretty well, but alas, I cannot. (Well, I can, except for that damn siege bug.)

BTW, I don't think it has anything to do with the sieges in particular. It's just that in the sieges there are like 7 reinforcement waves, whilst in normal battles it's 2. Equals a lot more corpses in sieges.

The problem is caused because the VRAM on the card is becoming full. Turn down the corpses and/or the battlesize slider and it should fix it.

I played M&B (v1.011) weeks without any problems (battle sizer: 100, highest graphics, never expierenced any lag) when from one day to the next this error starts to appear regulary. It happens mostly during battles but sometimes even in village scenes or dialogues. The screen turns black, either the game continues after a second or it crashes and says: "RGL error: unable to lock vertex buffer".

Meanwhile I can´t play any more because every battle crashes five seconds after starting. I tried turning the graphics down to the minimum and switching off corpses but this doesn´t help.

In that case, I highly doubt its your lack of CPU

I was getting this problem recently, until I capped the bodies at 40, and rag dolls at 3.

Specs:
RAM 4 gigs DDR2
Intel Celeron® 440 Processor1
(2.0GHz, 1MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB)
Motherboard ECS 945GCT-M3
Gigabyte 9800gtx+ 1gig

Hope this helped. And good luck!
