Come here to talk about what's going on in the Ukraine. (I've noticed a recent intrest in this topic)

READ THIS IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON:
For all of you who don't know; In November, President Viktor Yanukovych of the Ukraine abandoned a treaty with the EU in favor of closer ties with Russia.  The government then passed many anti-protest laws. The peaceful protests in the street turned violent when the police began using tear gas, rubber bullets, and other measures of force. The protesters responded with Molotov cocktails and other home-made weapons. On Feb. 22nd , Yanukovych was overthrown and fled the Ukraine. However, Russia has been making moves to seize the Crimea from the Ukraine . As Russian troops seize various strategic locations there, the Ukraine government has called for mobolization, and war now seems imminent between the Ukraine and Russia.

The Anti-Protest law of 16 January has been repealed by parliamentary vote of 361 to 2; and Prime Minister Azarov has requested his own resignation to President Yanukovych, which if approved, will dissolve the whole cabinet.

Aren't they preparing a serious crackdown on the barricaded protesters? Blood will flow etc. I feel the government can't do anything to appease the angry masses short of new elections.

Well, it looks from Bluehawk's post like these new elections will in fact happen.

Not likely.
Yanukovich offered the opposition leaders to form a new Cabinet of Ministers. Which is of course a trap.

So, do people in general think that riot cops are some sort of inhuman machines that don't flinch when you set them ablaze with a burning bottle of chemical compounds?

No, people think berkuts burn and bleed just like all of us do.
But a certain level of inhumanity is there, of course. On both sides now, sadly. Still berkuts are the worst.

I think their sentiment is similar to what I heard from many Antifa ****s over the years over here:
They sold their bodies to the state, so it's their own fault if they get hurt.

Well, of course in this case the police are pretty damn brutal themselves.
Berkut in particular has a... certain reputation.

Strangely enough I didn't encounter any stories in western media about wounded prominent protesters being kidnapped from hospitals and later found dead in the woods with traces of torture.
Looks like **** is getting real. I've taken a leave and will be in Kiev this Saturday.

The protesters have taken steps to discriminate against Berkut, for the sake of sparing the Interior Ministry soldiers. Here's one of the signs they post, with both useful information and biased language intermixed.

"Remember! Not everyone in uniform is Berkut!
Berkut... may use force against demonstrators; stand behind the soldiers while bricks are flying and not allow retreat; work for money; wear GRAY uniforms.
Soldiers of the MVD... have no right to use force against demonstrators; are used by the authorities as cannon fodder; are conscripts of 18-19 years age; wear BLACK uniforms."

Other Observers have recounted strange happenings in the streets of Kiev. On Monday morning, one of our Observers filmed the arrival of masses of young men wearing tracksuits in Marinsky park, next to the Ukrainian parliament. They were joined by the security forces who, at one point, appeared to escort them. When the author of the video asks them what they’re doing, some reply “we’re walking”, whilst others give him the finger.

The lack of coverage is probably due to fact-checking rumors, also known as journalism.
You probably mean this guy:

Leader of AutoMaidan Dmytro Bulatov has just been found alive after being kidnapped. He was reportedly tortured and the kidnappers cut off his ear and punctured his palms.

AutoMaidan is a group of 5000 some motorists that support Ukraine's integration into the EU and have countered police assaults against pro-EU demonstrators.
