Types of bandits

Hmm, I don't know..

We already have some racism as a minor theme in the mod, but the KKK is a magnet for potential problems.  :???:

as a person who has had both sides of the family for or against the Klan. I really don't care if you add them or not because I think it would be cool to kill some Klan members.

I was doing some reading on the KKK, and I've got the perfect solution. According to wikipedia (and of course verified by my grandmas encyclopedia collection):

"More recently, historian Bob Brewer has suggested that the Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) were a precursor to the KKK. Most recruits to the KGC were in the Southwest, in Texas and New Mexico, where they formed private militias to carry out raids in actions that people hoped would extend slave territory after the Mexican War."

It's perfect very few people would know who the KGC were, and they were active during the modules time period in the modules area. This would void most of the controversy. According to the encyclopedia they were also called copperheads.

Also they did not wear the controversial white robes (I think) there is not too many pictures to verify

I think it would be really nice to see a weird ol' guy in tattered red uniform, saying ridiculous stories about his warring times. It's not really hard to make a uniform for this mate, but it's on the team to decide.
We've thrown some nice ideas here, I hope everybody else will like 'em.

Yeah I agree. Another idea, and one less farfetched, is to include a band of Confederate renegades, something around 40 men, patrolling the part of the map around New Mexico or northern Texas, where it's a little far from the towns, and it's mainly wilderness. They would have the Confederate uniforms seen in the mercenary units already ingame, though they could also have the more ragged looking uniforms that you can buy in the shops. These Confederates would know of the South's loss and all, but they would refuse to give up, or something along those lines. Would these former Confederate bandits make a good gang that a player can join, possibly, or would this be a little too unrealistic? We have American outlaw, Mexican bandit, and lawmen (militia, rangers, sheriffs, deputies, vigilantes, etc...) groups already, but should Confederate renegades be a category?

Renegade Confederates could be cool, especially if a US general gave you a quest to find and kill them (thorn in his side, nuisance, etc.)

Ah the Copperheads, they were worse than the Klan to be honest. How the got a way with so many things with out being identified was by making it look like the KKK did it.

they may have been worse, but you have to agree copperheads would be less controversial in this mod because they are lesser known

I don't know a whole lot about the history of the KKK, or subgroups (it's never interested me in the least), but I would think that this group the "Copperheads", if you guys feel the need to add such a group, would be a lot less controversial...  I personally would like to see more bandits, but I don't think the issue of race or any of that needs to be added... This is supposed to be fun     -of course, if they were bandits that we're trying to kill, i guess there's no harm *eta*

I actually find those robes and hats the coolest thing about this idea. We could give all those clansmen of the Copperheads red hats like in Django (instead of white hats+robes).

I can't wait to see the stupidity that ensues if you do add something klan-like.  Should be good for many laughs.

At this point I'd be happy to have some bad guys that fall between looters and deserters.

Some small faction parties would nice for when you're stalemated by the big boys.  Hunting party/Forager, Patrol, Surveying Party, etc.

Ideally I'd like to see more small factions like the classic 'Cattle Baron' archetype.  Quests along the lines of stopping/hunting rustlers, driving off homesteaders, murdering/bribing the sheriff  and all that good Hollywood stuff.  If the mod was set on the west coast some tongs/triads for flavor.

We've added a lot of different bandit types since releasing 0.7 that are coming in the next patch. They fit in nicely between looters and deserters in terms of difficulty.

Don't know if it was mentioned but I just watched the History Channels's documentary on the Commanche, and one of their main enemies were the Buffalo Hunters who were master marksmen and also majorly effected the Commanche's livelyhood by killing off the Commanche's most treasured resource. At one point in the docu, the Commanche tried an outright attack on the Buffalo Hunter's hangout but were met with fierce resistence due to the BH's amazing profciency with the .50 cal rifle, and driven off taking heavy casulties.

Anyways, I thought that Buffalo Hunters might make an interesting 'Bandit' troop and could perhaps attack the deer herds, the closest thing to buffalos, thereby affecting the Commanche's resources.

Plus the environmentally conscious players could have a ball killing them

I don't think the Hunters should be "bandit troops," but they should be more like the roving settlers that you see occasionally on the map, that is, non-aggressive, but you can of course kill them if you want.
