Two suggestions (okay, wishes)

Hey,
first off, i want to congratulate with the very impressive mod. somehow a western theme works very well with the M&B engine, and you guys/gals really got it right.

Two things though:

1) Please reconsider/rebalance your money system. Its a war to keep a group of just 20 mercs going. One needs a lot of loot, or a sh*tload of ramsoms and bounties. A normal footman costs over a dollar to keep. Fair enough, 20 of them plus companions quickly ask for 30+ pr. week. Its doable, but hard to save some money for meself. The income works fine with your equipment. Not too expensive. but as i said, the weekly payouts are a killer.

I suggest that eighter the pay goes a bit down, at least for the lowtier troops, OR you make both bounties, prices for goods and ransoms go a bit up.

2)
A common problem in mods really, but i like to play an Calamity Jane character, and nobody makes their new skins for female characters. I figure that the native game had two skins pr. outfit, depending on if the character was male or female, but anything here makes my hero look quite bulky. I don't know if you have the resources to fix this, and it is a rather small thing, but it annoys me.

In any case, keep up the good work.

regarding the salary, how high is your leadership skill? It makes a big difference when you put a few points in there. Also, use fewer mounted troops and do not automatically upgrade everyone. The cost of top tier troops is not proportional to their effectiveness.

I must say I like this system much better - elite few vs. large cannon-fodder army. I have to manage the number of top tier troops in my company in order not to get bankrupt. So normally I only upgrade troops once or twice till they get decent weapons, and only a few get upgraded further. Then I have lots of "+" marked troops waiting for their officer to get killed so they can be promoted. If I am up for a difficult fight, I upgrade many more troops before the battle anticipating that many will get killed (before salary day ).

I don't find the wages bad. Actually I think it is managable, I can afford a 40-50 men gang and save up money in the meantime.

What is important: troops with horses are extremely expensive, and are rarely worth it, especially mounted pistolers/pistoleros are bad performers, they never hit anything (circle left, but cannot shoot left). Keep infantryman with rifles, they are cheaper and much more effective.

For the second point, you can feminize your outfits very easily with OpenBrf. Load a .BRF file, right click on a mesh, then click "add feminized frame" and save.

I rarely upgrade my troops. 50 Units of melee fodder work better for my style than the one high-level gunner I could afford for the same cash.

Wow, that is really useful.  Thanks for pointing this out.

Thanks for the answers guys and gals. I see your points about upgrading, but when you say yourself that i should not upgrade all my troops because "The cost of top tier troops is not proportional to their effectiveness", you have agreed to my point that there is a mismatch somewhere. I mean in vanilla an armoured knight would be bloody expensive, but also bloody effective.

The top tier troops ARE more effective than an equal number of lower tier troops. Most come with repeating rifles and high accuracy. The point is that for their salary you can get a larger number of mid tier troops that will be just as effective.

So, for example, if you are limited by the max number of party troops, rising the mean tier will make your party stronger - you cannot recruit more anyway. With a small part you also move faster on the map and you do not need so much food. The best thing is to strike a balance where you have a small fraction of elite troops and cannon fodder around them. An indian lancer will kill a 1 tier foot troop just as easily as easily as a 4 tier. But if your 1st tier distract the lancer (by being impaled on the buffalo lance), the elite troops with high accuracy and volume of fire will kill him - low tier troops are easy to replace.

Just be glad you don't have cavalry units. If you have an army of them they easily cost over 100 dollars but they get **** done. If you ever somehow end up like that, try to kill them off before the end of the week. It might get annoying but after a while you'll start noticing that even simple cavalry recruits can plow through top tier units. For some reason horses prevent them from dying of blood loss lol.
