As seen on Taleworlds'
homepage, an advertisement for a With Fire and Sword tournament, backed by Nvidia and Taleworlds, is displayed across the page.
However, as a Warband player, I feel pretty alienated in that Taleworlds not only has not hosted a tournament for Warband in some years, but also has refused to fix glaring issues with Warband (steps on Port Assault that "sticks" players when they reach the top, the glitch jump over the roofs to the dragonhead spawn on Nord Town, etc).
I'd really like to see more Taleworlds involvement in Warband, especially if they have the ability and capital to fund a tournament for WFaS, then I feel they should be able to pay similiar attention to Warband.
It is rather lamentable that many simple bug fixes seem to have been forgotten/ignored, but I don't think they are obliged to provide regular tournaments for the game. They are doing now for WFaS what they did for Warband earlier; giving it a kickstart. If either game isn't good enough in the long run to keep the player base without short term attractions like official tournaments, then the multiplayer game obviously isn't that great (mods can provide new variety when needed to keep things fresh, but if the combat is good enough it will keep people playing). Personally I have no interest in tournaments, yet I regularly played Warband until both Native and most of my favourite mods lost their playerbase (e.g. 1866). I still play MP quite often though, it is a fun sideshow to singleplayer and other games. Perhaps though the issue for those wanting a tournament is that competitive play is seen as the goal for the series, and one that needs to be maintained? I would hope that Taleworlds don't agree.
For me, it seems many people in this board regard multiplayer as more important than singleplayer, which makes me sad and I worry for the future potential of the singleplayer game in the next instalment of M&B. I hope too much focus isn't given to multiplayer; the game is at heart singleplayer, and very unique. It seems from this thread that many people are relatively pleased with what is essentially a medieval version of an online FPS; the melee fighting is of course very different, but the pace and atmosphere is much the same. Whereas SP can provide skirmishes which make me feel like being in a 'real' medieval skirmish, MP rarely if ever comes close. I don't think it is worth spending too much time on multiplayer unless they revamp it completely. If they simply devote people to organising tournaments and other gimmicks on a regular basis, then I think those people would be better off being assigned to developing singleplayer.
