TW Sponsored WFaS Tournaments, not Warband?

As seen on Taleworlds' homepage, an advertisement for a With Fire and Sword tournament, backed by Nvidia and Taleworlds, is displayed across the page.

However, as a Warband player, I feel pretty alienated in that Taleworlds not only has not hosted a tournament for Warband in some years, but also has refused to fix glaring issues with Warband (steps on Port Assault that "sticks" players when they reach the top, the glitch jump over the roofs to the dragonhead spawn on Nord Town, etc).

I'd really like to see more Taleworlds involvement in Warband, especially if they have the ability and capital to fund a tournament for WFaS, then I feel they should be able to pay similiar attention to Warband.

Agreed. WFaS is also ill-suited to competition, as its primary feature is firearms. Might I add that they are also quite accurate, and they are only "balanced" because every single faction gets them. The WFaS tournament structure is also hilariously flawed, in my opinion.

I'm 100% with you on this. WFaS (although an interesting concept) isn't half the game that Warband is. The competitive community for WFaS is almost non-existant, and combat has a tendency to be extremely unbalanced. On top of that, some players can't even play the current version of Warband w/o getting a CTD. If I don't see some Taleworld's involvement soon, I may not even get their next title. Whatever happened to that guy they hired to keep in touch with the community, anyways?

That would be the guy running the WFaS tournament. Mikail Yazbek, Yazzy on the forums.

Ya, I remember when I saw the advertisement for the first time.. I was like "WTF, don't they know (almost) everybody absolutely hates the MP of that mod!? Why aren't they making anything for Warband!?" While thinking that I  quickly realized that it is exactly the reason why they are funding this tournament; to get moar ppl to buy their somewhat flopped mod; moneyz.

I think most ppl realize by now that TW isn't about keeping the existing M&B Community happy ('they already bought our games, mission accomplished'), only about creating a bigger one ('we needz moar ppl to buy our games = moneyz')

They should prolly adjust their marketing schemes, cuz with these smaller titles/companies a substantial part of new customers are hauled in by 'hear-say'. Keeping a community happy is paramount for that to succeed.

Its really something that will never be explained, why "With Fire and Sword"? Such a small community getting all the glory and praise it doesn't deserve.

There really needs to be a poll which isn't inside Mount&Blade: Warband OR Mount&Blade: WFaS forums to show the devs that infact, a large proportion of the MB community couldn't give 2 craps about WFaS compared to Warband.

It seems the devs have really gone with wfas for their attention.

The developer part of me guesses it is because the current branch of code going forward is probably wfas, and they back fill stuff into the warband branch of things when it is convenient. Most likely the development attention is on 'project obvious', and this is a marketing stunt to get more people to buy their game.

Either way I don't understand the developer silence. I think a big thing for indie style games is developer/community relations, even if they don't talk to us, it is important to say something at least once a month.

In any event, Chivalry, War of the Roses, and possibly Overgrowth seem like promising alternatives in the works for online melee combat in the future. Will be following the development of those games and/or possibly looking for a new home depending how they shape up.

Is project obvious War of the Roses, or no?

Wasn't impressed with the current alpha build of Chivalry for skilled combat.  Hoping later builds and input will create a deeper layer than it currently it.  Warband far, far exceeds Chivalry currently for skill based melee combat.  Another testing session this Sunday so we will see if this build holds improvements.

OT: Would love more TW involvement with Warband.

+1...here's hoping they notice.  I would pay money for more frequent updates/tournaments.

Never say **** like that Wiley. Paradox will hear and make Taleworlds release that were supposed to be in retail and call it an expansion pack.....owait.

I think the war of the roses devs did Lead & Gold. There was an RPS interview where they talked about the mechanics. They might be leaning too casual friendly to make it as fun. They mentioned some control scheme like holding down right mouse to block then adjusting with the mouse. I think it seemed to me they weren't really far enough along to find out what is and isnt working.

For chivalry it's hard to get information on where they are going on their forums, not a lot of open minds over there, seems like they have taken a life time of 'm&b is better' comments and are sorely wounded from it.

As far as I can tell the combat in it involves 3 attack buttons and a parry button and a double tap for a unreal tournament side step move... which doesn't sound all too interesting... But they keep talking about all these 'amazing things' they are thinking about but havent hinted at, so not really sure where its going to take the game. Also I didn't play AoC anyway to compare much but I have a feeling its predecessor will heavily influence it.  Once again though, they keep mentioning the causal appeal phrase getting tossed about.

Either way it's pretty early on for it so I'm staying optimistic

For overgrowth the last few alpha videos seem sort of interesting. I think the developer really has a good eye for finding fun yet complex game design so have high hopes for it. I'm not sure if its oriented towards multiplayer though.

I strongly agree with Rhade

Plain and simple Taleworlds has forgotten its first love and if they dont make a 180 back to Warband I think the next title may be a complete flop

I also feel as the leader of a prominent US Warband clan that they should fix glitches, make new maps, maybe make new weapons and possibly make the combat system even more balanced so that the competitive community will survive

We really need Taleworlds support in Tournaments, Nations Cup, etc Because atm only the community is keeping the game alive

PS Overgrowth ftw Ive been trakcing it for several months Its going to be a great game and im looking forward to playing it

More taleworlds involvement wouldn't be bad but I'm pretty sure this was Snowball's endeavor from the start and TW just helped them out a bit. The prizes are the kind any reasonably successful game developer can pull from a company like nvidia with the mere mention of some publicity

Frankly I can't say I blame them. I only bought wfas to take part in this tournament, presumably some others did the same. I actually like the community having control of our own events anyway. Sure it's nice if there's someone truly impartial like taleworlds to run things but even in this officially backed wfas tourney the judging is being done by whatever players wanted to sign up as a judge.

As for chivalry and war of the roses, everything i've read so far makes me think neither will be decent games for any kind of competitive play. Probably good games to play a few rounds with your gran though

It's really quite sad that players have to manage the upkeep of the community by offering their own prizes for winning competitions (I.E LordHasek) when it should be in the best interests of the devs to keep players interested in the game.
I believe we should elect Rhade as our union figurehead, write a signed ultimatum to the devs, expressing the necessity for change and updates, under fear of strike action by not playing the game until change has come. I also propose that MrNomNom be incharge of PR and produce a union banner, logo, slog ect...
So, who's with me!?
