I'm not sure if this has been reported as I'm sure most ignore the tutorial at this point, but essentially you get 50+ charm for doing absolutely nothing!
To recreate this when making a character, I put 2 points into Charm. Once you go to the nearby town to speak to the Headman, after finishing his dialog you are awarded 50+ points of charm, putting you up over 70 before you've even hired the guards and bought the grain.
I am on the beta patch, although I know that is now the live version.
