Troublesome Bandits

I was given this quest and before I could engage the party Manhunters attacked them. I helped kill them (by the results I should've let the Manhunters fight them by their selves because they killed a total of 2 guys) after the battle ended it said I failed this quest, I know this has been an ongoing thing since vanilla but is there anyway to fix this? If you help kill a party of bandits that you were ordered to kill you should get credit.

Its a known bug, which will be fixed in 2.6. Easiest way to fix it is source editing

This is one of those quests that I'm always hesitant to attempt. I always look around the town's proximity first to see if there are any manhunters around before I accept the quest. lol
