Trouble texturing

I just picked up wings and spent 12 hours straight learning how to use it very quickly. I download 4 of highelfs videos and they helped tremendously. But since his tutorials were done with an older version of wings some things dont line up. I am having trouble UV mapping and texturing. When I try to UV map certain parts of my model it doesnt appear to color them at all. Is this because I need something toggled on view? Secondly when I am positioning my model on the UV alphabet texture thing, it doesnt appear on my model like it did in the video.

a detailed and lovely side show of my problem

First I want to put uv layers in my model.. going right along

Now I try it again with a different and larger segment

So I say to hell with it, select everything, and press continue

Why is it blank?

But in this tutorial look what happened to his model when he pulled up that screen

To put a picture in a spoiler do this.. Get the picture url, for example, http://pinklea.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/donkey.jpg, before the url put,
插入代码块:
and after the url put
插入代码块:
[/IMG]

It will look like this
插入代码块:

Then put that in a spoiler like you did with those words

End result..

Nice ass.  Er, donkey.  Ungulate, dammit.

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

As to the main problem... I guess I'm kinda waiting to see pictures.  Wings is really pretty easy to use for unwrapping.

One thing you can try is to highlight everything that you want colored (using the fully red cube at the top) and then right click on the material in the outliner (the little white square called default or whatever you named it to) and then click "assign to selection." Now when you drag a texture onto the material, it will be applied to the area you highlighted. Does that make sense? If that doesn't work, its a bit tough to find out what the problem is from here. Good luck!

no that does not help sadly.. the video tutorial went over that part and iv tried applying a number or those squares under the outline thing..

Is it possible that the textures are changing but my settings don't allow me to see the textures?

WHAT BOTHERS ME THE MOST
is that i cannot assign uv layers. Or i may just be unable to see the uv colors because of some mixup in the endless sea of wings settings

Maybe you did mark some parts and some not when you choosen Uv option. If w3d didnt mention nothing about error badarith or something, you should have all parts on your uv map. Maybe this will help:

no! that makes me mad not. His ugly alphabet quilt texture thing mapped to his model right away and yet mine (see picture) wouldnt map to it

That ugly alphabet thing is not his texture; it's the example wings3d uses. And well, maybe you should look at the tutorials again, because it's explained pretty clearly in them. (UV-mapping still blows chunks, though.)

First, try uvmapping hard edges without the hard edges on so you can draw lines on the whole texture instead of having it separated into two uvmap. Second, what's your problem?

-_- no the problem is the textures DONT SHOW UP
I am just going to reinstall wings, maybe that will fix it. Idk why i didnt do that before
