Troops' Skills Affect Anything?

So I was just wondering if a troop's skill affects anything.
Example: If a soldier has 3 Trainer, 2 Pathfinding, and 4 Engineer, would that affect my party, or is that there for fanciness?

I was under the impression that some of that rubbish was randomly calculated?

Only skills apart from combat that do anything will be Athletics and Riding for map speed. That's why recruits move slower than Huscarls no matter what pathfinding you have. There's a whole big lot of stuff that people have worked out about movement speed; that's also why Swadian Sergeants (?) have some riding, because they're tagged as mounted for travelling purposes.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm modifying my game and I am trying to create a "Trainer" who specializes in something (guess). I'm just wondering if this would be useless.

It would be awesome if a trainer that improves map speeds could be added to the game in a later patch or in a mod...

Party Skills only matter for heros.

The only normal troop skills that matter are battle-related.

U sure about that? I remember testing something similar on the M&B original and the trainer skill had no effect.

In the native expansion mod swadians got a "noble" cavalry line (barons, earls etc) that I remember had training skill and it worked. I'm pretty sure the mod didn't change the code for that or anything, so that's how it worked in native at least

Well, its not hard to test out: see if there is any difference in training up a bunch of recruits with or without elite troops in your army. Im gonna try that later today.
