Unsolved Troops shield taunt automatically

Whenever I enter a battle and tell infantry to hold position, everyone with a shield starts bashing it until in throwing range. This is without pressing "t" or even having any trait yet. It's as if they are on an infinite loop of shield bashing. I have the steam version of warband, reinstalled and updated to the latest version. Any help would be much appreciated.
