Troops move out of the way

I'm sure we've all been there; Some epic siege is happening, all of the enemy troops are being filed into a tiny choke point, but your troops wont move out of the goddamn way to let you get a piece of the action. I know, you can tell them to fall back or spread out or hold a different position, all that stuff, but that moves all of the troops out of the way and may cause the enemies to spill over onto the wall; Either that or it is a narrow wall and you need to get to the other end to get a better angle to shoot from, but its too crowded to get through. So, in my opinion, the troops should either automatically move out of the way when you're pushing against them (and then go back to their original position once you've passed) or the kick move should effect friendly troops as well as enemies. I'd rather not have to stick my boot up a dozen huscarls asses to get to the frontline, though. So yeah, what do yall think? or am I being an idiot and there already is a function like this?

edit: other thing that would be very helpful: during sieges have an order to "take defensive positions" for archers. That way, if you're in a pinch and tell your archers to charge, you can order them back to their original positions after reinforcements have come.
And while your at it, improve the starting points of archers. so many of mine are either just shooting into a wall or somewhere on the ground behind the wall.....

This is why I love indie games, the developers actually listen to suggestions.
huh? This game is not one of those xD

But anyway, suggestion is good.

I think he's saying they don't listen.  But at least they practically hand you the source code of the game if you want to mod.

its not consider an indie game? my bad. Is taleworlds part of some big gaming corporation?
No, I meant that they don't really listen to players.. I'm reading this board pretty often, and I NEVER saw any administrators or even moderators posting here, not even talking about developers

huh.... was this board made by the modders, or by taleworlds? you'd think if they made a "suggestions" thread, they would occasionally glance it over. but whatever, so this is a mod idea board?

I think a more accurate guess would be that the suggestions board has outlived the willingness of the devs to add features in patches, in favor of working on Fire and Sword.

I'm on the fence about it though. On one hand, you do want your troops to move if you need to be somewhere fast (usually to rescue weaker troops from being slaughtered) but at the same time, it sounds like it would be very difficult to add, and how could you separate the player from any AI that would otherwise "activate" the feature?

uh.... this is about the extent of my coding knowledge..... you would sacrifice a goat to the god of python and request assistance. or the god of java. whatever this game was written in.

but, isn't it already activated for the AI? i've kind of noticed that the AI can push me all over the place.... kind of annoying when on a ladder.

related, another place this would be useful is ladders, I don't like being the first guy up the ladder because, well, you don't want to be the first guy to hit the wall of troops at the top, but once your troops get going its pretty damn hard to make your way up there. The problem is you don't want to just shove everybody in your way off the ladder, especially the guys already engaged at the top.

hmm, still the problem of finding a goat to sacrifice to achieve this coding, but what if there was an order to make them move out of the way? like a way to activate the feature and deactivate it, so once you get to the very front line you can leave like one row of troops in front of you to keep fighting while you poke people with a spear.

The only thing I hate about sieges is the fact that you do have that choice of either getting ALL the action (and dying in the process because I don't care how good you are, you can't kill hundreds of guys by yourself) or being blocked by the mass on the ladder/siege tower and possibly not getting any fighting time in before your guys win.

The easy solution to sieges at least is the multiple ladders mod, and with careful positioning and commanding (stand near the base of the siege tower, tell your men to follow you and then to charge) and you can get in the fight. It would be cool though if there were a command like "(soldier group), step aside!" and anyone directly in front of you moves out of the way however they can. I don't know a script from a scribble either, but my guess is that it would work similarly to the "stand closer" and "spread out" commands, since that makes them move laterally.

ok, so I just discovered the "nearby soldiers" order.... I haven't tested this yet, but if you tell only nearby soldiers to "spread out" will that do exactly what we're talking about? or will that just make them line up in a straight line, falling off ladders and getting in everyone elses way....

the AI does need to be improved in M&B, no matter which way you look at it.
