Troop Review

Here is a thought I had while playing and which would I think make for a fun addition to the game as it stands.

I used to use the Talk interface in the Party screen to get an idea of the level and weapons of my troops.  It can be quite tricky to get a real idea of the array of weapons and armours in use amid the rush of battle itself, so I would also look at them after the battles before tabbing out as well.  Neither of these works as well as it used to in the current version (for these purposes).

But it seems it me would be fairly easy to building a a "Review Troops" button in the Camp menu, which creates a small area like a battle map in which all your troops spawn and form a line as they do when holding position.  Then you could walk up the line at your leisure checking out what everyone is equipped with and observing the precise balance between archers, cavarly, infantry etc, how many are heavily armoured and so forth.

This could be usefull when new troops appear in the game or for the newcommers. Still I at least learn pretty quicly the armor and effectiveness of my troops ans I presume that others do too.

AFAIK the equipment is 'rerolled' each time you enter battle, so anything not guaranteed to the trooper might change between battles.

It would be easier to check out the actual stats and experience though, and a nice touch if you had a 'walk around' option (like other settlements) and could see your troops wandering round, practicing and similar. Not sure about forming a review line though, don't think my Khergits would manage it

I would like to be able to see my troops statistics and current equipment, but a review?
imho:
I don't think I could trust myself not to have a party comprised exclusively of sword sisters
so I could have an all NUDE review!

And yes, I'm a pig.

Yes, equipment is just randomly selected from a wide number of possibilities. Other than some item types with guarantee_ flags there's no truly standard equipment for any given troop type.

One possible implementation would be for the camp menu to include a "take a walk" option. That way you could see a random selection of men wandering around or standing guard or whatever and check out their gear that way without it feeling like a roll call. Plus you could have the feeling of having an actual believable camp for those who really like to role play the depth of things.

I WANT it to feel like a roll call.  I'm in command and if I say they line up for inspection then thats what they do.  But if a camp environment was implemented and the orders still work like they do in towns, then I could order them to line up myself.

I'm fine with it even if they are randomly equipped, at least you can get an impression of their equipment, which would be especially useful for new players getting used to the factions.

I also agree with some kind of backdrop, you could have tents and fireplaces and so forth, with your banner fluttering over the top.
