Triples of vertices bound together in Thorgrim's Map Editor

I used a colour map bmp and imported it into Thorgrim's Map Editor. Now I'm smoothing the edges to make it look nicer. All over the map, I have those triples of vertices bound together creating some wierd wrinkles on the map that mess up the game's pathfinding algorithm.

How do I get rid of those vertices so that I have only one instead of the triple? If I try to move any one of them, all 3 move. It seems impossible to select only one. When I delete them, an empty grey facet appears and there is no way to paint a map tile over it. I also tried the smoothing function but it seems powerless to smooth out those wrinkles.

I have a problem with welding those vertices. Here's what they look like before welding:

Here's what happens when I weld a pair:

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have only successfully welded two vertices at once, you can also make it show the edge lines to see which ones are closest. Sometimes you have to move the third vertex away so you can select just two.

Well, look at that, it works! Thanks a lot!

Vertices are selected based on proximity (projected) to cursor. You can carefully move cursor from outside towards the group, and vertices will be selected one by one. Just stop when there are two selected, and Ctrl-V

I feel it's my duty to tell you this.

Only manual smooth with Thorgs map editor. Every freaking time I've ever used auto smoothing it's caused some weird ass gltich or  it's decided my idea mountain range waterfall REALLY wants to be a stream.

Not to mention the billions of pathing problems it may cause with MB.

It takes a bit of time but after ages of using the map editor i can firmly place my opinion that auto smooth is absolute crap.

I'm smoothing manually because auto-smooth always crashes the editor for me. Anyone know how I can add more vertices to the map?

You really can't but here is what I do. It takes some math reasoning. IE Paths = 3 verts per "Tile" "outside/Middle/outside"
Mountains the same.

Now consider your oceanic cliffs will take atleast 2 to show up in game/editor without smoothing on.

Since most of us have a general idea of how our maps are going to shape out when we start , make your base map accordingly to these functions.

Make it MUCH bigger than you would normall have (When you are done you can delete verts or even just drag the view box closer).

That's how I keep my map(s) organized and detailed.

It's ALOT of work dragging all those verts around but it creates semi hard edges which is fairly important.

All in all, always make your map template BIGGER than what you will use.

Create new triangles by selecting an dragging with Ctrl, then weld some of their vertices with old map surface. Voila

M&B's engine sometimes won't recognize it though :/.

So you'll have areas of complete skybox where you would of have ocean or whatever.
OR even worse is when you try that when there is a tile present nearby. It tears the tile and drags it all over the screen via view camera.

I don't see how hard it is to weld "properly" I'm just saying there is a case that the bloody thing will drag around or tear. It's best to simply make your map bigger and drag from there. Adding resources to a flawed map editor (though the only one we got short of taking it to 3dmax) is resource taxing and could cause pathing problems.

It does sound dangerous but it's worth a try if you back up your map.txt first.

I am trying to recreate what can happen gimme time but once you see it you may think twice on it. Yar it's always good to back up your stuff.

Basically what I and my buddies have encountered TIME AND AGAIN with adding verts is this.

The yellow view box goes inside of the red one. The red one stacks onto the yellow one on the north side, etc, etc it's a weird bizarre looking instance and when you go into game like literally everything tears . This is with "proper" welding. You HAVE to understand the map editor is a mod in it self. Meaning not a professional piece of released software. It's a simple 3d program that converts text to obj and visa versa.

Doing too much with it can cause OMG HOW CAN I FIX THIS issues.

Of course like all things you can go through 20 years of using something and never find an errors.

EDIT: Alright added a vert "properly" welded it.

Good times. Only way to fix it is..Export to obj and import it back.
