Treshold Skill Level

Hi

I would like to start a discuassion about different skills and there "optimum" level. This might become very subjective, but I like to see other points of view

What I mean with treshold skill level are values in skills which suddenly give a huge bonus. Hmm, difficult to explain but I try an example:

When I increase Riding from 5 to 6 and using my Charger I was surprised, that suddenly the speed was considerable higher and provides a lot of advantage. Tried Riding 10 I have to say that skill level 10 is not necessery, but increasing from 5 to 6 is really worth it

Or this and maybe the most obivous example:
Powerdraw 8 which enables you to carry the Masterwork warbow.
It is not because of the damage itself, but the fact that many enemies will then start to die with one shot instead of two, and this actually means that you have DOUBLE damage
Also here increasing PD to 10 would not really be worth it(okay, maybe higher tier troops will then start to die after one shot, but the majority of units "require" PD 8 and MW Warbow.

As the opinion of a treshold skill level is highly situation depended, please tell your situations where you think that there is a good treshold.

Those skills would interest me most:

Power Strike
Weaponmastery
Riding
Shield(I guess level 10 is absolutly unnessessery)
Athletic
Horse Archery
Looting("Unlocking" Masterwork items?)
Persuasion
Trade

"The more, the better" is no subject of this thread, but a reasonable balance between cost and profit

If you want to fire the masterwork warbow with any accuracy you want 10 pd.  Even then it won't be completely accurate.
I find powerstrike 5 is necessary to consistently hit through heavy armor with one-handed bladed weapons less than that and it bounces sometimes.

Riding 3 is good to get at least the hunter horse.
I like athletics 5 at least but if you are mounted all the time you can do without it.
You stop getting shot in the head over your shield at skill level 2. You stop getting shot in the legs for the most part at skill lvl 4.
Horse archery 6 is enough to ensure completely accurate shots from horseback at full speed. You can get by with skill lvl 4 though at moderate speeds.
I don't use WM myself but a lot of people like it.

I only use rank 7 for power draw. Masterwork strong bow is better than the warbow *faster and more accurate at range but like 2 less dmg..*

Power Strike 6
Weaponmastery 5
Riding 4
Shield I dont use shields, Im a 2h guy
Athletic 3
Horse Archery 5
Looting My companion has  looting skills
Persuasion 7
Trade My companion has trading skills

All right, but you still need to take into account that a character might be tailored to a specific role.

For instance, one might disregard Horse Archery (not a horse archer), or Riding (infantry character), or, as I do in my current game, Shield (only using 2h weapons and bows), etc, etc.

you say shield 10 is unessisary,  but it reduces damage to your shield-  which means you can use a cheaper and weaker (and thus faster and lighter) shield without any fear of it breaking.  wont mean much to most characters really, but if you want an ultra-light infantryman it can help.

When your party skill level of surgery hits 10 you rarely lose any soldiers, atleast thats what I noticed in m&b, not gotten that far in warband yet!

Start looking at group skills for really big bonuses. If you have a skill developed, you get extra points towards the total. If you're alone and have 10 Surgery, for example, you will actually have 10+4 surgery. An INT character can be very powerful in that regard; even having a 2 skill means you get a free +1 to that skill. I've still noticed a handful of deaths in sieges (7 or 8 surgery companion) but having 14 surgery plus the 25% base-rate (iirc) means over 4/5 of fallen soldiers are KO'd and not killed.
