Transport Tycoon is what it says in the tin, its a game, about transporting stuff to get money, simple yes?

So yeah, after seeing the yogscast fail at it, I decided to try get my own game running, Any takers?

This was good fun back in the day. My dad actually had the original Transport Tycoon, but Deluxe was a compatibility nightmare.
I got nostalgic a few years ago & got it working with TTDPatch instead of OpenTTD, but it just didn't feel the same.

Awesome. I used to play this game all the time. I remember when we got our very first laptop I could run this on it, and I'd play it all the way to Spain.

Have installed it, and I'm currently enjoying it loads.

I mean the game that the source uses.

Whadda you mean?

The game was called Transport Tycoon when it was originally released, but then they released Deluxe edition, then it went Abadonware, and they revived it by making a fanpatch and making it freeware and the source made to public...

I tried it for a bit but I think I might be retarded. Is there no tutorial? I seemed to have a tough time figuring routes and well pretty well everything.

I find that it gets a little too easy for my likings. Once you get a coal to power plant train setup from one corner of the map to the other that makes €250,000 a trip, you make loads.
Once you have multiple of these, and with multiple trains on each, THERE IS TOO MUCH MONEY. Aaah!

Really? I've had Deluxe installed on about a dozen computers throughout the years and I've never had more than soundcard issues.

There are some mods you can get that make freight less profitable, restrict secondary industries from spawning outside of large cities, and/or require you to haul off the byproducts while limiting the amount of goods a site will accept in a month.

I personally restrict myself to only hauling freight to a handful of stations, depending on the size of the map. For example, on a huge map I will pick four power stations (one for each sector), and I will only haul coal to those stations throughout the entire game. This makes things tricky once you're juggling some twenty coal mines off of a single power plant.

I think there were several versions or different releases or something, only some of which worked well. Or maybe It was just that my computer back then was a bug infested pile of ****, even before my uncle ****ed it up further.

Whatever the problem was, it works now. But like I said, it kind of lost its appeal for me over the intervening years & without some really hard settings or restrictive house rules, it's no real challenge now either.

Me and two friends are playing at GMT+0 evenings, if anyone's interested and has mumble and a microphone, you're welcome to join us. We are going to have a set of house rules though, but nothing too stern, I think.
