transparent avatar?

hi, I want to put the white background of my avatar transparent, so i delete it in photoshop, save it as a gif image but aparently it's still appears white on the forum... any tips?

Your avatar is too pixelated. Starting out with a JPG will do that to you.

You can get around that. And made as a .png because photoshop ****sup the resolution for gifs for some reason. No problem with transparency though.

i tried with most of the formats and the png one didn't work as well (don't know why)

You probably had a background layer not deleted or unlocked.

Layer > New Layer > Select "Transparent".
Layer > Drag Layer 1 below Background.
Layer > Right click Background > Merge down to Layer 1.
Select tool > Remove white.

Doesn't really take much effort: Magic wand with 20 tolerance and delete whites. You will notice small bits of white (or grayish) along the borders, but because they are so insignificant you can black them out via layer blending options (color overlay).
