Transfer: M&B Repository -> M&B Nexus

One is the "" line break:

I noticed that too. I believe the BBCode for a line on the Nexus is either [line] or [rule]. Can't remember which, but it shouldn't be hard to add it to the BBCode filters.

The other is the mini description that shows up when searching. Right now it seems to be a cut from the main description (or rather a direct extract from the start of it). Will that be modifiable when we have access to our files?

Yes, there's a "Small description" text box (355 characters max I think) and a "Large description" box when adding new mods or editing current ones. The small description is what you see in the category view, and in search results. So a small preview of what the mod contains. The large description is the full mod description/blurb that is on the mod page itself. As the Repository doesn't use that system I've just had to make do with taking the first 355 characters from the main mod description as the Small description. So, TL;DR: Yes, you can change it easily!

I agree, the singleplayer only categories are a bit useless when you look at it put together. Large Mods is a little vague as well though. Maybe "Modules" and "Multiplayer Only"? It might be worth adding a Maps category to resources as well

If people could come to some consensus about the categories within the next 18 hours or so that would be great. I'm almost done here!

I've also emailed a few of the Taleworlds guys about running a money off promotion to coincide with the launch of M&B Nexus. The thinking being if you offer 3.4 million people a chance to get Mount & Blade for 10% - 20% off because they're super cool then they're probably more likely to buy it, which is good for everyone! Haven't heard anything yet, but want to give them more time to respond.

On a completely unrelated note, I know it's (very, very) early days yet, but are there any plans to add NMM support for M&B files sometime in the future?

I'd love to do that. I can't do that (myself, personally) as I'm not coding NMM. However, NMM is completely open source and getting new game support to work with NMM (I'm told) is not very difficult at all. You "just" need to know C#/.NET and have a bit of time on your hands. If there was someone, or a few people, in this community who wanted to take on this project I would do everything in my power to help them, and I can link them up with the current NMM developer for help and support.

I've actually just put up a new job opening on the sites for a full-time C#/.NET developer (it's a paid position) so if anyone is interested in that, you could kill two birds with one stone: get M&B support in to NMM and get paid to do it. Otherwise, we'll probably get around to doing it eventually, but probably not before some major new features are added to NMM, and probably Dragon Age support as well (as they've been waiting longer for it!). I know the dev is absolutely swamped as it is, hence the new job opening, so it's slow going at the moment.

Soooo want. Too bad I'm only in my second semester of Computer Programming and have no real experience outside of making shopping cart apps.

Capital work thus far, DarkOne. Very impressed with how this move has been handled. I have no input on categories however, considering I've retired to the Off-Topic board for some time.

Just an update. I've almost finished the user conversion script that will allow Repository users to claim their files on the Nexus. Obviously in order to claim your files on the Nexus you will need a user account on the Nexus. So if you're following this, you're planning to use the Nexus, but you don't have a Nexus account at the moment, you might save yourself some time later by signing up now.

The process should be simple enough.

- Create and populate a database table on both the Repository and the Nexus containing the author's email address, their user ID on the repository and a randomly generated code [done]
- Email code to all Repository mod authors with a link to a page on the Nexus to claim their files
- Repository user will have to register a Nexus account if they don't already have one, current users need to login
- Repository user clicks the link in their email
- Nexus checks the unique code in the email against the code contained in the database for the email address and user account specified
- If successful, Nexus changes the file ownership ID in the file database to their Nexus user ID, for all files that are owned by the Repository ID linked to the email address specified
- If unsuccessful, the attempt is logged and after 5 attempts users are locked out for an hour to stop people "Brute forcing" their way in to trying to gain access to other people's files

I'm just about to start work on a second script that will allow those users who do not like the Nexus to remove all of their files from the Nexus through the same email/link system. Obviously at least one person has expressed a dislike at the idea, and there's likely to be more who feel the same but just haven't seen this forum topic. My thinking is actually to not remove the files, but to simply set them as hidden. This way, absolutely none of their files can be accessed by anyone, but to prevent a knee-jerk reaction of having all their work lost it will remain dormant, in case they ever change their mind. Having said that, if they have a Nexus account they'll be given access to all their files and can delete the files manually if they so wish.

People resent change, and first reactions are often very negative (this thread is testament to that), so rather than people removing all their files without giving it some time to sink in, I think hiding the files (with an option to delete if they so wish) is the safest bet. Let me know if you think differently.

I'll email Janus this evening once everything is ready on my end. As far as I'm aware, once I'm done with this scripting, the ball then passes on to Janus who has said he'll post news up on the Repository about the move and then lock new file entries, so no new files can be added to the Repository. Janus can then provide me with a final database dump and I can update all the downloaded files on the servers, at which point we'll be ready to go.

Unless I hear differently today, I'll be changing the categories slightly as per Moss's instructions. So please, if you have any feedback on that, now is the time to say.

Will download counts be kept during the transfer?

The Nexus has 2 download counters: Unique downloads and total downloads. Unique downloads are counted as only one download per account or IP. So if you download the same file 10 times (because it has an updated version, or for whatever reason) the unique download counter only goes up by 1. The total downloads would go up by 10.

The Repository only has total downloads, and there's no download log (as far as I'm aware), so there's no way I can formulate a proper unique download counter. So your total downloads will be saved and moved to the Nexus, but the unique downloads will all be reset to 0. So I'll rename "Unique downloads" to "Unique Nexus downloads", although I'm sure it will still confuse some members at some point.

Alright, makes sense.

As for categories, regardless of how it is currently in the Repository, the separate category of "Singleplayer only" is confusing. The "Gameplay Mechanics" mods are mostly/all going to be singleplayer only mods. Might be better to Have the "Singleplayer only" be more specifically the 'Large Mods' or something similar.

Conversions, rather than 'Large Mods' perhaps (though I suppose that is a proposed 'tag')? What would the difference between "Modules" and saying "Singleplayer Only" be if there is still the Gameplay Enhancement category?

Another suggestion: it might be a good idea to have Warband listed above WFaS, since engine similarity and general popularity means that Warband is going to get (and has) significantly more mods.

...Hi Dark0ne, I saw that this version of IN-Warband by Kea Black has not been transferred from MBRepository to Nexus:...

...can you do it please ...?

The test dump I got was from the 19th of January, so any files uploaded after that date won't be showing on the site I've put up. When I get a final dump from Janus it should contain every file on the Repository

All right, as you may have noticed I've locked the Repository from accepting new files, though existing file listings can be updated with new files as desired. You can head over to the site for the full news blurb.

Anyone who has uploaded anything to the Repository can also now claim and/or hide (if so desired) their files on the Nexus by following the links provided in the user panel.

So... that's pretty much it for the transfer. I think Robin Scott still has a script running in the process of categorizing the files, but otherwise the transfer should be complete.

Just in the process of setting up the downloads and file mirrors now, so should be good to go in about an hour or so (PS. that's the reason why the site is loading slow atm).

One problem I have noticed:
Unless I'm missing something. This would be a very nice feature to have.

If you could add this, this would be perfect I think. Thanks a ton for this, DarkOne!

Wow! When I first saw that thread, I thought it would be extremely hard to transfer all the files from the all past years. But you Dark0ne and Janus, managed to overcome all the issues. I'm looking forward to seeing M&B Nexus up and stable.
