Recruit
For god sake, I trully love this game but training the troops is just unbearable in this game. Please just add what warband already had "Training" attribute or any kind of training. Nope the perk is almost useless. prisoners recruiting is also not enough when you have 250+ army size, same goes with village relation, it is just not enough. This is the only thing that ruins my gameplay experience. One mistake, your army is gone... then 30 minutes of just pure recruiting from villages and then I have 250 peasants which die in almost every battle. Even when I win the first 2-3 battles they are still only tier 2-3. Not to mention after first battle half of them dies.At the same not, how is it possible when I beat a lord in about 5 minutes he already has 30 horse archers, 30 cav, 100 (3tier) troops, 50 archers etc. when I have like 5cav, 25 (2tier) troops and 220 peasants. I dont want to only complain so I come up with some ideas that may resolve this issue:

1) Use the "Training" attribute from warband (personal character and companions)
2) Make it possible to buy troops with higher tier (I know it already exist but it is insufficient). At least 30 troops a town, but make it expensive as hell if you wish.
3) Money has almost no value in this game in later stage, it would be nice if I could buy a trainer or lend your troops to a town/lord to train them in exchange for money.
4)Maybe a training field in your castle/town that actually train your troops while you wait there/ or while you are not.

I really love this game and I want to see it beeing the best like warband was but at this point the gameplay is trash compared to warband and 5 times more trash than modded warband.

Thank you devs.

I don't think the devs want to give us much passive training. Their target is for troops to get around 15% of their xp from training and the rest from battle. I complained loudly when they nerfed the leadership perk from 15/30xp per day down to 1/2xp per day, but that's the intended amount. I think some other perks will also give some passive xp when they're finally reworked, but I wouldn't expect it to be much more. What's clear is that they definitely don't want to give us anything as powerful as Warband's Training skill.

If you have tier-1 soldier group consist of 10 men you were getting 30xp in old calculation. Now you get 2xp per soldier means that in total you get 20xp for your tier-1 group. So xp gains did not changed much for tier-1 groups. If you have 20 men in one group you get 40xp for that group which is more than previous implementation. Any one perk does not supposed to train your troops by itself only. We have hundreds of perks and any of them cannot be so powerfull. You will also go into battles time to time if you have this perk probably about 15% xp gains will applied by this perk to your 1-2-3 tier soldiers and 85% will gained by battles. We cannot make effect of one perk equal to battle rewards.

These perks are only side effect. We will add more. If you collect several of them you can upgrade your soldiers easily without battles.

Yooo...

Yes, you should recruit and train in batches, but not batches this big. Just collect around 30-45 dudes, get them to T2 or T3 via bandit slaying, then collect another 30-45 and get them up to T2/T3. If you have 60-90 T3 units, you can take down a good chunk of lord parties with low-ish losses and upgrade from there.

250 T1 recruits are of course going to get absolutely murdered by anything slow enough for them to catch -- assuming they don't get run down and slayed instead. Even if you bought 250 horses, they'd still be pretty slow on the map.

Maybe the troops could be trained in arena in practice fight or tournaments. You could select a groop of troops and join the fight.
I know, I know.. all these things are just too much for the devs atm. But it would be so nice to train troops without the necessity of slaughtering looters or raiders (or declare war).
After all, you should be able to train your units in peace time too. Arena would be ideal for this.

I mean yes that works in theory, but itr is too long and painful journey. In my case, I have a huge kingdom to defend from "balanced factions that took over half of map during first 4 hours of gameplay" and this is not a solution, because while I rebuild my army, enemy take 4 towns and 3 castles. I played mods on warband for example" 1247 or clash of kings" that were way harder than bannerlord or classic warband and had a great trainig and recruiting system, but still were way more challenging and difficult. Its not that I want it to be easy, I want it to be hard but managable.

I agree, without the discipline-perk, train troops is a pain in the a**. However, once you gain this perk, it´s a real gamechanger.

Recruiting is fine but training needs some work. I believe the current perk is broken as it gives something like 30 experience total for every type of troop you have. For example, if you have 30 recruits they will get 1 XP each. I don't believe that's working as intended. Fortunately, there's a very solid training mod that doesn't currently crash the game.

Its just not fun to fight elite all-horse merc bands with guys wearing sack cloth and armed with pitchfork-like sticks.

Its just not fun to fight dozens upon dozens of teen and twenty sized bands of poor people, for the half dozen troop promotions to Level II Not Quite As Awful as Peasant.

Its just not fun to fight that elite all-horse merc band again, with whatever scum you could rake out of the muck, and realize that they've magically found replacements for any of their elite troops you managed to kill the last time. Plus a few peasants who will hit your lines after their cavalry has already shattered your band's morale.

Its just not as fun as Warband.

If anyone is struggling to recruit you can:
1. Turn down recruiting difficulty.
2. Use a mod that shows where elite troops have the potential to spawn.
3. Take the perk that allows you to turn bandits into normal troops.
4. Improve your relations with towns.
5. Recruit prisoners (there's a mod that makes this easier as well).

I've found a good way to get started is to get a party of 25 or so recruits and then just spam the Deserters quests that towns give out. You make thousands of denars each time and are able to capture and then recruit very high tier troops. You also train your recruits while the town's militia does most of the dying.

It takes me about two hours to go from scratch to being able to beat almost any lord party on the map using that method and I could probably shave time by being a bit less cautious in target selection and a bit more smart with my in-battle tactics. It isn't skill thing either, just knowledge and judgment.

In my case, I have a huge kingdom to defend from "balanced factions that took over half of map during first 4 hours of gameplay" and this is not a solution, because while I rebuild my army, enemy take 4 towns and 3 castles. Wait, hold up, you have a huge kingdom? Then just strip your garrisons. The other parties in your kingdom will replenish them naturally. And 1257AD is not harder than Bannerlord, lol.
