Train troops mission bug

In my playthrough after I got 10 men to train from some npc in the village, I went to finish a gang fight quest I got earlier. The problem is after the gang fight I failed the quest receiving a letter that says all the men are dead but all ten of them were alive, in fact they didnt even join the gang fight.

I had this same issue, with a gang fight too - they weren't in my small number of people for the fight itself, but all ten were still in my party

I have also just had this same bug with the mission failing after a gang fight and the borrowed troops not even being in the gang fight.
