Trading fiefs w/ other lords.

Sergeant at Arms
So in my game I'm thinking of trying to exchange one of my castles for another so geographically I can better defend my lands from attacks.

As of now, I have 3 castles and 1 village under my protection (My king Harlaus has been generous to me ) but they are really far away from each other and all happen to be on the frontiers of enemy lands. It would be nice to have as many fiefs and castles in close proximity to oneanother.

I'm just curious, if I decide to go through with this, will I lose all my garrisoned troops inside my castle after a make the trade? Should I ungarriison all of my troops beforehand so I don't lose control of them?

I would test this out beforehand but I'm affraid to because I have the "save on exit" option enabled for this character.

Troops go with the town when they are traded away.  On the bright side you gain the troops in a town you traded for.  So it depends on how badly you want to leave the one you're giving up undefended.

Does the amount of troops garrisoned, or their tier, make any difference to the lord you're talking to? Or it based solely on prosperity and his relation towards you? If it doesn't you could really take advantage of literally getting free troops while losing none.

Hmm - in the Beta version I would trade a castle for a castle - the Lord I swapped with would want X amount of denars to "move belongings" etc.  When I went to my new possession I would find that my troops from the vacating castle had been moved to my new castle.

I must have remembered incorrectly it seems.  Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks for the heads up.
