I think that the towns could use some diffrent upgrades. This would make he game more strategic and not rely on time to beat the game.
-town blacksmith
With towns you have taken over, a blacksmith could build you swords and the like. This would be diffrent than the market because you choose the model (from existing models of other weapons maybe) and the stats, say a longer handle for better reach for a pike. The better the blacksmith, the more points you have to disribute for the weapons atributes.
-recruiters office.
Cities have a lot of carvans and peasents running to and from them, if there was a recruiter's office that offered them gold (amount set by the player, more gold, more soldiers) if they joined your army, a certain percentage of them would stay and join your army if the recruiter was good enough, and you offered them enough gold.
-Market
Better markets bring more poeple to town produce more taxes. Enough said.
-barracks
Sleeping in barracks makes soldiers happy makes better morale.
