SP Native Town Troops 0.91 (for M&B 0.903) - UPDATE

Very nice idea and thx for this mod!
Suggestion: cultural differences for recruiting, for example(all fictional and only a suggestion  ):

-Swadia: military strenght of this faction is based on knights - heavy armored and mounted feudal lords. Foottroops are mostly poor equiped peasants.
villages: poor equiped militia, with time they may loot some better items from battlefield(no standard equipment, mix of different weapons and armor of poor quality)
cities: well equiped and experienced mercenaries(Doppelsöldner, Halberdier, Longbowman) and city guards(crossbow and polyaxes?)
castles: knights(charger, plate armor, lances, swords, maces etc.)

-Nords: Nords are in their opinion sons of gods und live for war. Farming is for cowards and men of humbly descent. So farmers are no more than slaves.
villages: no fighting troops
cities+castles: good equiped and highly experienced foot troops(longbow, chainmail/reinforced chainmail, swords/spears/axes + shield, twohanded axes, throwing spears/axes)

-Khergits: It is said, they are born in a saddle and they die in a saddle. Every Khergit owns at least one horse and a good bow.
villages: light cavalry, equiped with composite bows and scimitars
cities: troops from allies and conquered nations(light infantry?)
castles: heavy armored cavalry(cataphracts), equiped with lances and throwing spears

-Vaegirs: Loose and relativly free society ruled by a couple of warlords. The geographical position in the middle of Calradia leads to many wars and skirmishes with their neighbours, so every man have some experience in hand to hand combat. It is common, that sons learn the art of fighting from their fathers. Vaegirs adapt the equipment and tactics of their neighbours and have a good mix of troops.
villages: relativly good equiped militia(axes, hunting swords, boar spears and leather armor are common, decent chance for chainmail, bows and good close combat weapons)
cities: good city guards
castles: medium/heavy cavalry and medium infantry

-Rhodoks: Democratic society with general conscription. No different troops for villages, cities and castles or perhaps better equipment for rich citizens/nobles from cities. Veteran troops in castles.

English is not my native language, so i hope my post is still understandable

can i use this mod with band of warriors mod for .903 or is that not possible?

i'm almost 100% sure that it is not, but i would like to know how much trouble it would be to port over the changes via winmerge or whatever.

Your best bet would be to just download the source, open up whatever files this affects (most lilkely _troops, _parties...etc, but not music and such,) and copy&paste the changes.

Town Troops

Version 0.91:
* got rid of the trigger error
* minor changes. Troops can be found in taverns a litte easier
* some new armor textures (about 20)

Weapons in these screenshots are not made by me. They aren´t even part of the mod. Weapons are from the great Standard Weapon Upgrade Projekt, which I installed without makeing some backups

In the next version the player will be able to advice his king in some political questions (peace? War?). Maybe I write a script to send out your compangions to do the recruiting for you.
-----------
Version 0.9:

* Added unique champions to each castle
* Lords staying in towns or castles now reinforce their parties with town troops or champions, up to a certain limit. (only the owner of the castle gets significant champions). This was Castle Lords and Town Lords can get powerful armys
* The owners of castles and towns can reinforce the garrisons while staying in them
* Recruiting from town can lower the prosperity of towns and castles
* Towns spawn scouts and patrols. Poor towns may spawn deserters instead
* The look of the "walkers" of towns is now dependend of the towns faction
* fixed some minor bugs

No I am starting retexturing some native armors for a more unifom look of some factions. I would be glad if someone could help me with this.

This little mod changes most of the native troops, the reinforcements for cities, parties and castles, and recruiting of those troops for the player.

There are now 3 different Troop types:

1. Peasants and Militias
You can recruit peasants the normal way from villages. Peasants can be upgraded two times to militia units, which are powerful enough for bandits. Rich villages are defended by more experienced troops.

2. Soldiers
Each town trains its unique Soldiers. They have good equipment and can be upgraded two times. These upgrade will only effect their skills, they will keep their equipment. At the highest level they will be slightly more powerfull than the highest native troops. As player, you can recruit them in the towns taverns, if you have good relations to the town and / or you are allied to the town, for examples: Halmar Horse Archers, Rivacheg Marksmen, Thir Warriors.

3. Champions
Champions the most powerful troops, but they are rare on the battlefield. You can hire them in castles if you have good relations to the castles owner (or if you own the castle, of course). Champions cannot be upgraded.

Cities, castles and npc-partys get all possible the troops of their faction. Town and their lord get more troops of their specific soldiers, poor towns will add more militias than soldiers etc. If a faction loses towns (or if in case of the rhodok they have only two towns) mercenaries are added.

To Do:

* Rich towns should spawn patrols and scout parties, poor towns should spawn deserters
* Maybe add militia patrols for rich villages
* Maybe adding "elite patrols" to castles
* Maybe making the townsmens garments dependend on the towns prosperity

Phobos,

I really like your mod.  However, I'm having lots of problems figuring out how to get champions.  I own Tilbaut Castle and Bulugha Castle right now.  Whenever I enter the Lord's Hall at Bulugha I see a "Foot Knight of Bulugha" standing there.  I'm assuming he's a champion.  When I go to speak with him, he always tells me "We are not supposed to talk while on guard sir." I tried leaving 10 slots available in my party and having at least 10000 in cash, but either way he keeps giving me the same message.  Is there a way I can recruit champions?

Thanks,

FS

Dunno if you remember, but there was a mod that let you customize troop equipment for units.  Maybe controlling your own castle would let you recruit such custom troops, and the castle could have a trainer in the courtyard that let you outfit them.

I think that might make a pretty cool addition to this mod.  Basically make equipping the unit "free", but it increases the recruit cost and maintenance wage of that troop type.  Same with skill points, so, you basically create your troop, but how hard it is to train and expensive to maintain an army of them is based on how powerful you make them.

I see it asked previously, and don't know if anybody is even still looking at this thread, but how do I recruit from the lesser castles? I can recruit from taverns and towns as in native, but it sounds like I should also be able to recruit from the lesser castles. Any help welcome

I'm doing very similar stuff to this in Southern Realms - could you release your source, it would be much appreciated?
