Summary: Assigned 2 governors as companions, one in Thractorae Castle the other in Charas. The one in Charas is never in town except in the very first days of their assignment, this happened before to the previous governor whom I had to chase after to get back. It is notable that they are in the tavern when they get assigned at first, as if their "Wandering" behavior immediately kicks in as soon as they are left alone inside a city
How to Reproduce: Appoint a companion as a governor of a town (castle governors work fine)
Have you used cheats and if so which: None
Scene Name (if related): Any town settlement
Media (Screenshots & Video):

Computer Specs: Irrelevant

As others point out there is a thread on the topic already.
Here is how to "keep a fix on it - read not really"..
Since atleast on my end some, but not all the bonuses from the governor dont apply(like prosperity bonus, milita, and they seem to get alot slower progression to their "steward" when they are out of town).

So generally speaking they will stay in town for 3-5 days atleast in my plays, bit longer if there is a tournament going on it seems.

Basically what you "can do for now" is to go into your clan management, unassign the governer choose none.
Then exit the menu.
Open the menu for clan again, assign the governor, close the menu.
Now the governor should be back in town, note you have to close the menu's between checking things, otherwize it wouldnt put the companion back in town from my experience.
Bit annoying to micro-manage, but it "helps" in terms of the skillgains for the governor and bonuses they apply that didnt in my case atleast get applied when out of town.

This is one of those really annoying bugs, that I do hope they fix fast.

Got to be connected to what you say "wanderer" part of their programming kicking in when it shouldnt, kind of like when there was the issue before where you left a companion in town or familymember even if they didnt have a role, they would teleport all over the place(which seems to be fixed now).

I run into the same thing, although I'm not sure they actually move. When I go to the clan member page it shows them in different towns, but when I go to the town/castle I actually assigned them to, they are still there. When I go to the fiefs page it shows them still assigned to the appropriate town/castle. I still see them getting steward bonuses & stuff so I assume their bonuses are still being applied to the town/castle I assigned them to, even when I'm not there. Maybe what I'm seeing isn't the same glitch or maybe I am only partially glitched, but thats what I see.

I think in your case its a ui issue, in mine and others the assigned governor is actually in different cities.
I used the taverns to get +2 buff to morale to easier have 75+ always (leadership gain without the need to run armies constantly).
And several times I've seen that my governor is in the tavern
When I go to my town, and it says he's in some other city, he isnt in the Keep nor in the tavern, and so he is out there.

So I'm thinking you got another glitch/bug than what this is reported.
I suggest you upload a savefile aswell, cause it may be easier to track it if you got one that is "glitched" to see if there is some difference in the code or whatever they look for.

As I said, some of the bonuses get applied some dont (Culture bonus of the governor, but some of the others not, like +1 to milita production etc).

Mine isn't in the keep or castle, as you stated, but it is still showing as governor in the manage town screen.

This it do for us aswell I think, shown as governor, but last seen in another town.
And when you go to your town the governor isnt there.

So as the other guy in a post said, it looks like the "wanderer" script kicks in and makes them act as wanderers, while still retaining some of their governor abilites, but some not so much.

Governors in Castles seem to work as intended this is just for Towns afaik.

I hadn't really noticed the differen ce between towns and castles, but I don't use governors in castles too much as there generally isn't a revolt in the castles (I use them occasionally, but not often).

My suspicion on the Governor teleporting and the lack of progress on Steward skill is atleast on my end now proven.

I put my wife into the role as governor, and its been months and she's not teleported at all.
She keeps on getting steward skill pr day and a "massive boost" once an improvement is completed.
The wanderer-stewards would only get the massive boost from completion, and very marginal boost to steward, but I think that was from them playing tavern-games vs nobles in other towns or something.

I actually had this Bug that you bring up here which is similar but different.

In my case the governor was supposed to be in a different town, but when I visited it - she was actually in my town(I went to buy some food, and just checked if the governor was there or not).

I've now run into sort of a different bug/outcome with the travelling governors..

So this latest governor she will teleport when I'm makeing an settlement upgrade (granary etc).
However if I put it on continous project "irrigation" to boost attached village population, she returns and stay at town.
I flip it to any of the other continous projects she is gone in 3-7 days and teleporting again.
Same if I put it on makeing some new upgrade 3-7 teleport.
Put it back to Irrigation - boom next day she is back on duty.
I have no clue on why this happends, but its "funny" in a sense but also superweird

I've been informed that this bug is fixed and the fix will be sent to the game with future patches. Thanks for reporting and sorry for any inconvenience!

I'm experiencing this issue at the moment so It's still not fixed. One thing I noticed is that if I assign my family members they stay put, but the wanderer companions keep wandering as if they're still looking for work in various towns.

It's quite an irritating little bug especially if you are too busy to micromanage with a lot of wars when you need loyalty bonuses in fiefs.

still happening but with family members as well, please make sure that is in the fix, thanks

My wife is governing a city, and won a tournament, but not in the city she governs! What a woman! Now I know why we only had one child.
